I was contacted by a Verizon CS person and told that they have nothing to do with the update to Jelly Bean. It comes directly from Samsung, they determine when the device will be upgraded. He didn't know if or when the Galaxy Nexus would be upgraded. He basically acted like he had never heard of Jelly Bean. I told him that he was full of (edited content to comply with)
and I wasn't going to speak to him if he was just going to lie to me. Then I hung up. I expect my service will be terminated soon.

ridiculous. other carriers have jellybean already on their galaxy nexus. I will definitely rethink my contract when it comes time to renew if they're going to be so behind other carriers with updates.

he could have been telling the truth.. verizon has about 60 phones all on different softwares. The release dates aren't shared with the front line.. when its pushed to the phone they get an email that its now rolling out to phones.. stop crying so much, its software.. it isn't going to do anything earth shattering.
Call the local grocery store and ask if they have some obscure flavor of ben and jerrys and see what they say

I can barely remember when this site was actually helpful and decent, with users that actually wanted to help others.
Now it seems to be full of rude, loud mouth children that love the smell of their own farts.
Sites such as androidforums, androidcentral, and rootzwiki are much better places to get useful information.
Later kids.

The problem is you do not understand how a Nexus phone works. The update process for a Nexus phone is supposed to work similarly to the way the iOS updates come to iPhones. Google creates the update and they push the update to the phone WITHOUT any interruption. And example is the 4.0.4 update for the Nexus S. The source code was released on AOSP servers on March 28th and the Nexus S received the update the same day. The source for 4.1.1 was released on AOSP servers on July 9th and the GSM Nexus for the update July 11th. It takes Verizon/Sprint 2 months at least to release the same update, so obviously it is a carrier issue. Also some of us purchased the Galaxy Nexus because we were under the impression (as with other Nexus devices in the past) that this device would get updates directly from Google and it would be the first device to get the latest Android versions. We were not told that Verizon would make this nearly impossible, and we would be sitting here 2 months after the release of Jelly Bean with no update while the GSM Galaxy Nexus has had it for close to 2 months. I personally have learned my lesson and will get the GSM version of the next Nexus Device, and obviously another carrier.

Again there is a difference between GSM and CDMA. It is a LICENCING issue and a signature issue. It has been explained by JBQ as why AOSP was initially removed and then put back, and it was explained multiple times in other venues on how CDMA works so much more than GSM and how unfriendly CDMA can be to Open Source LONG before Google introduced a Nexus device.
CDMA requires MULTIPLE signatures and they can't be test signatures. What this means. Google/Samsung makes an update it has to go to Qualcomm and they test the radios and sign off. It goes to Verizon they test it on their network and say there's problems. It gets sent back to Google/Samsung and the process starts all over again. It has been this way since the inception of CDMA(long before Verizon even jumped into existence). This is one of the reasons why I hated Symbian on a CDMA carrier. Qualcomm could have changed how this worked and people have expressed to Qualcomm over many years on this issue. Qualcomm still has not changed this.
Now for GSM it just requires a signature and that's it. Doesn't matter if it's a test key or a manufacturers key.
There is a downfall for GSM, but I won't go over each aspect of each technology. Wiki is decently accurate when it comes to saying the difference between the two.

So now please explain the differences between the Sprint and Verizon CDMA networks that is making it more difficult to bring Jelly Bean to the Verizon G-Nex. Obviously there is a difference since the Sprint Galaxy Nexus has the update and the Verizon version does not. That would be assuming Verizon has NOTHING to do with the delayed updates.
A more logical explanation for why the Verizon version is the only version without OTA Jelly Bean comes down to Verizon's business practices. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Verizon delayed the update until the Samsung Galaxy S3 or one of the "Droid" line gets the update. Prime example of this is the Droid RAZR (MAXX) and the HTC Rezound. The Rezound had multiple working leaked builds of ICS, but the update was mysteriously delayed until after the Droid RAZR (MAXX) was update. Also the Galaxy Nexus is worse because why would they want someone to buy a phone that isn't filled with bloat that makes them money.

Go to Sprint. Just because they get it first doesn't mean it magically doesn't have problems. For example the GSM ICS update messed over a lot of Galaxy Nexus in Australia. Of course that doesn't matter they got it before we did right. Also the RIL's are different between the two as is the radio from what I remember. Just because they are the "same" on the outside doesn't make them different on the inside.

The one thing a number of users don't get is that the 4g radio is the biggest difference... Verizon is the only carrier using a dedicated 4g radio when all other carriers are using a modified 3g radio because WiMax and HSPA+ is just a hyped up technology created from the original 3g hardware.
Since Verizon stepped into their own field when they built dedicated 4g radios this makes compatibly a little more of a job because they are the only users of that technology.
Not all 4g is created equal.

You do realize the Sprint Galaxy Nexus support LTE also? Not to mention AT&T and several other carriers in North American use LTE as well. Verizon definitely has the largest LTE coverage; however, they are not the only carrier with the technology. Your statement that all other carriers used a modified 3G is highly inaccurate. T-Mobile is the only one of the big 4 carriers that still relies on HSPA+

If you ask Sprint, they will tell you that the device isnt working on the LTE technology yet because they are still working on the system... The devices with LTE compatibility are still running on WiMax which isn't really 4G.. Read the post below to explain more..

>Personal attack removed< My Galaxy doesn't work and the reason is no update to JB and the fault of that lies solely with Verizon who also promised me it would be 'any time now'! So
>Keep naming calling to yourself and off the board<
Another fine example of why big business should not be allowed to operate without being strictly regulated. Especially when providing a utility we all need!

This is entirely absurd. >Post edited to remove complaint of moderation. The items that have been edited does not take away from the complaints. I strongly urge everyone to read the Terms of Service https://community.verizonwireless.com/docs/DOC-1011 to see what can and can not be said on this site<
Verizon is turning into as much of control freak if not more than Apple -- except it worse. yes, apple does regulate what apps can go on iPhones but when there is a software update everyone gets it on day one. The Nexus was VZ's first pure Verizon phone. These updates can get pushed out directly from Google. Of course, excuses are made that extra steps have to be added in the process. Qualcomm has to aprove it, VZ had to approve it. It really comes from Samsung. All of these are smoke screens and imply and undue layer of interference in the process. VZ customers did not buy the Nexus because they thought they were buying a Droid Razr, LG, or HTC Android. They bought the Nexus because it different. Now VZ Nexus owners are getting a second rate experience.

Honestly I would doubt less that the representative was lying and probably more clueless about the OTA process than anything. I have yet to talk to a Verizon employee who actually knows much about phones in general. Tech support? Yea OK.
I would assume we should see the OTA soon considering 4.0.4 was released to AOSP servers on March 28th and Verizon finally approved the update and it was release on like May 30th. 4.1.1 was released on the AOSP servers on July 9th so if we look historically it could be soon. Verizon may sandbag until the GS3 (or even the 3 new Droid RAZR phones) receive Jelly Bean since those are the phones Verizon is pushing [Since the Galaxy Nexus has always been the redheaded step child (no offense to redheads or step children)]. If this happens the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will be the FIRST Nexus phone to get ninja'd with the release of an Android Version by another phone(s). When that happens it will solidify that my current Verizon contract is my LAST.

If you want Jelly Bean today simply (deleted content to comply with VZW ToS) your device. There are plenty of sites out there that will show you how to do it. I'll just wait the 6-8 months it will take for the worst carrier in the US to come out with it. I changed my home phone service over to cable and this will be my last cell service with Verizon.

I really wish this phone would update! I feel like verizon is teasing us with these leaks and such. Verizon has amazing data speeds and 4g-Lte makes it even faster. But they are AWFUL when it comes to updates. Its not like 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 where minimal changes happened. I am having insane radio issues and Jelly Bean will fix it. I would flash a custom rom but that would void my warranty. Please Give us a status update of when i can expect Jelly Bean
