Well on my phones I simply long press on the photo and select save on an iphone. On my android I also long press and it asks if I want to save and a list comes up like Gallery it also comes up with use as wallpaper and a few other places.
On an older android I owned it was auto saved to my pictures folder. So those ways maybe are still the norm.
