Try doing this
Place your phone on vibrate, then listen to some music via the stock music player, with your headphones/earbuds plugged in and still listening to music
launch a game that has sound such as temple run 2, the music should be coming out of the phone's speaker and not through the earbuds plugged in
i told verizon this the first time and i got a replacement phone that does the same thing
so is this a software bug?
