Stuck in the Desk Cradle mode

My samsung fascinate seems to be stuck in the Desk Cradle app. Or
more precisely, when I hit the Home soft key, it takes me to the Desk Cradle,
rather than the page with all my widgets like it used to do. If I hit the soft
key that take you back a step, it does take me back to my true home page. The
display is also stuck in the rotated position.
I've tried pulling the battery, no help. The phone will not even turn on unless
it is plugged in.
Anybody know how to fix this?

If I understand correctly, your handset will not power up unless connected to the charger. If that's the case, then there may not be a resolution for what you're experiencing. Your handset may need to be replaced. If you're still experiencing this problem, please contact me with a personal message. Thanks!

I have this very same problem, which started out of nowhere last night. The Desk Cradle shows up as my home screen every time I start my phone, and even when I am able to kill that application, my phone is locked in horizontal mode. PLEASE HELP!

Remove the battery for 10 minutes. Hold down the vol up button for 30 seconds, then replace the battery. See if that helps.

No luck. When I turn the phone on, it blows right through the puzzle lock screen and launches the Desk Cradle home screen. And any time I kill the app, I get my normal homescreen in landscape mode, but if I push the "Home" icon, it launches the Desk Cradle. **bleep**? Would seem like some kind of bug with the Desk Cradle app, but then I would expect this to be a widespread problem.

Hi Shteeve,
Thanks to the Community Members who responded. I would like to add some additional troubleshooting steps, since you have already tried a soft reset. I would recommend a master reset of the device.
***Important***This setting erases all data from your phone, including your Google or other email account settings, system and application data and settings, and downloaded applications. It will not erase current system software and bundled applications stored on an optional installed memory card, such as music or photos. For this reason, please ensure the data on your device is backed up before performing the master reset.
Below are the steps on how to perform the master reset on the Fascinate.
Select Menu
Select Settings
Select Privacy
Select Factory Data Reset
Please let us know if this corrected the issue for you. Have a great day!

Autorataion is checked.
Executed the Master Reset.

The reversion to desk mode remains a frustrating anomaly. I’ve been able to clear it by clearing and reformatting the cache and reset to factory defaults. It usually takes 2 or 3 tries.
But several of days later while in another application, its back in landscape Desk Crade.
Once it started doing repetitive screen captures, which I wouldn’t know how to do if I wanted to?
It was back in landscape Desk Crade.

OK, yesterday was the most interesting!
While timed out in my shirt pocket, the Media Player started by itself playing Don't Fear the Reaper.
I unlocked the screen and the Media Player was on top.
Exiting Media Player, the feared Desk Cradle mode returned!
Is this a software or hardware issue?
All reports of this issue can be traced starting to 6-8 weeks ago. I've had my Fascinate 18 months and there were no events reported before 8 weeks ago. That would point to software.

Is anyone working on a practical solution to address an obvious defect with the Verizon Samsung/Fascinate.. A factory reset is a disruptive and time consuming action to suggest, given this is a Verizon/Samsung issue.
When can we expect a software or hardware update to resolve the Verizon/Samsung Fascinate defect?
This has gone on long enough.

I'd like to suggest that all members of Verizon support do a hard factory reset every morning while searching out a more practical solution before recommending a factory reset to Verizon Fascinate customer. A factory reset is a disruptive and time consuming action to suggest, given this is a Verizon/Samsung issue.
When can we expect a software or hardware update to resolve the Verizon/Samsung Fascinate defect?

I have been having this issue with my charge and I read another forum and tried it and it worked. I had to turn the phone off and plug it into the charger. Then I held both volume buttons and the power button until an icon resembling a man at work (digging rocks, black and yellow) came up. I waited a few minutes then hit just the power button until it turned back on. When it came back on, it was fixed. Keep in mind I had to hold the buttons for awhile. All my apps and info were still there. Don't know if this is true for all samsungs but worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion and I'm very familiar with the little digging man.
Yes, clearing the cache and resetting to factory setup does clear the cradle mode and the first time the unit returned to portrait mode I was excited. Unfortunately an unknown demon (maybe it's the shovel guy) reverts the unit to desk mode. There's no rhyme or reason which gives an indication of what triggers the revert to desk mode. Once I was on the phone and it switched to speaker. When I hung up it was in desk mode. On a number of occassions it's been in my shirt pocket asleep and the media player starts by itself. When I unlock the phone to silence the media player, it's back in desk mode.
I've cleared the cache and reset the factory setting more than 20 times.

This seems to fix the problem - it's a hardware glitch inside the USB connector!:
