Syncing contacts, contacts app

Verizon Galaxy s10e,

Issue #1:  I use to be able to separate my phone contacts from my gmail contacts. Currently, I don't see a method to separate and sync only my phone contacts, and avoid including the extra several 100 gmail contacts.

For issue #2, one of the recent software updates changed how the Samsung contacts app displayed the alphabetical list index. It no longer has that narrow right side A-Z pop out.

I found one on google play, fittingly call "Contacts", but the link to it's website takes me to some sort of error page, which makes me a bit leery of it.

Can anyone recommend a reliable app that has this feature?
