The touch screen is too sensitive.

When I am on a call, my cheek activates one thing after another from the touch screen. I cannot hold the phone far enough away to keep it from happening. When I finish a call, I am often a dozen "menus" deep in some feature or application. Can the touch be turned off, or adjusted, when you are on the phone?

Does the proximity sensor work? The sensor is supposed turn off the screen when you have it next to your ear.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

haigfish, your proximity sensor may be turned off.
Check the settings by touching the Phone icon and then the Menu button
Select Call settings
Make sure that there is a checkmark on Auto screen off during calls (this turns on your proximity sensor).
