How can I turn off Backup Assistant Plus on my new Samsung Galaxy s3? If I go to settings/Accounts/Backup Assistant Plus, it will not let me uncheck Contacts in response to "What would you like to backup?" If I try to uncheck the check box it immediately pops up an error dialog saying, "There was a communication error". Meanwhile, the device continues to attempt backing up frequently, failing. I don't require this service and would prefer to remove it entirely, but would settle for disabling it.

Try this:
Press Menu
Select Settings
Touch Application manager
Towards the top of the screen you will see "DOWNLOADED", scroll to the left until you get to "ALL"
Scroll through the list of apps until you get to "Backup+ Media"
Touch this and then touch "Force stop", (answer YES if you get the popup).
Then touch "Clear data", (answer YES if you get the popup).
Get out of this and go back to Settings and located "Backup Assistant Plus" and try to uncheck all the selections
If this doesn't work you may have to do a hard reset (which will wipe all the apps that you have downloaded and personal settings, it puts the phone back into the "right out of the box condition")

I had the same "communication error" when I tried to deselect what I didn't want update. But it seems it was because I didn't have my data turned on. Once I turned it on and tried it again, it unchecked my selections and no more errors.
