Why can't I connect my device to my laptop?

after the last update , I plug my phone into my computer and it doesn't see it at all. it only charges.. I have tried several chords even the one that came with it and still not seeing my phone.

With the Marshmallow update, the USB mode default is charge only.  Slide down the notification shade and you should see a notification that says Connected for Charging.  Tap it and change the USB mode to Transferring Media Files.

It wasn't showing up before but I did some trouble shoot stuff on the page

That does seem very strange. May we ask if your device asks for any permission to allow access or the settings are enabled to allow the device to connect?
