Why can't I update my Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean?

When I check for an update, I get "...check back when service available". I took it to a local store after I was told a new SIM card would fix, but that didn't work either.

I emailed Verizon support and got a call the next day. Apparently, this phone missed a minor upgrade on ICS and therefore won't allow the jump to Jelly Bean. The service tech Micheal did a great job explaining the issue and ultimately sent me out a free replacement device. Thank you, Verizn for the wonderful customer service.
