every US Samsung galaxy s has 2.2: except the two that have bing and are in verizons stable

While not all the Samsung Galaxy S phones in the U.S. have gotten an update to Android 2.2 Froyo, we're getting closer.  The Samsung Galaxy S Samsung Epic 4g received an update last week, and now U.S. Cellular's Samsung Mesmerize is getting all the desired features of Android 2.2 Froyo, which leaves the Samsung Fascinate and Continuum from Verizon out of the update fold.

Sorry for the clutter.  We'll try picking up after ourselves.  :smileyvery-happy:

This is the Samsung Fascinate discussion forum, not the technical support site.  That means we discuss issues related to the phone, not what is going on the world.  When you limit the discussion to the Fascinate, the Froyo update IS the most pressing issue on most of our minds.   You don't need me to tell you this since you've noticed the number of threads.

As for "real" questions, I think it is legitimate to wonder why the last Galaxy S phones without Froyo are in Verizon's stable.  I want to hear peoples opinions, rants, and theories.  It makes for some interesting and often hilarious reading.

I don't need Froyo - I think the Fascinate is a great phone with 2.1 Eclair.  But I look forward to updating my phone with new features. Until then, let's talk about it...

I  was recently looking at the xda site, but I could find no straightforward heading or indicator of where to locate the procedure for downloading 2.2 to the Fascinate.  Any pointers?

theres a walkthrough

once you find it you will have to decide what version of 2.2 you want

research each

What non-official version of froyo is rock solid? Do all the versions still have the bloatware?

read about each one, some have issues, some dont, some have bloat, some dont

you need to read and research.  without doing this you risk bad things

The one that I used had the full bloatware package, but it was the easiest to install and pretty much full proof without any problem causing your phone to fail

I regard the term official as a antonym. Froyo has been available since early February. Obtaining the official update only requires you take a trip to Vegas. However, if your looking for a route to take, I 've found Google gives the best directions.

I just love how Vegas is so open! you even get to pick your own flavour of cake. The gingerbread cookies are great too, but be very careful as they are known to give you gas. The incridents are still being tweeted, lets hope they come soon. By the way, I didnt know your greedy uncle Sammy lived in Vegas. I always thought he was a con artist who lived overseas.

Isn't it ironic...  Updates are going in order from the date they are released...  So I would expect the Fascinate and the Continuum to be last in line for the updates.  I see nothing wrong with it just a bunch of impatient people.

Though the Captivate flipflopped with the Epic 4G, but if you saw the complaints for the Vibrant AT&T could have delayed for further testing and Sprint users a different radio so the build is different.

Verizon could possibly delay for further testing due to the Epic problems which CAN affect the the Verizon phones.

Do you practice being wrong most of the time or does it just come naturally?

Dad-Bill, I am right 99.99% of the time. People just have to face the reality that the petite blonde sales rep fool us into buying something we didn't want. Now that buyers remorse has kick in, we're realizing that the hot sales rep was only interested in our wallets. Nevertheless, the Froyo update has been out for months, Verizon has elected not to release it yet because it would interfere with potential profits. As I previously stated before, if you want it, just take a trip to Vegas.

Went to a BJ's and was told something about this.  From a sales rep but then he has the phone as well.  He told me that he thought that the Verizon update for the Fascinate Etc Etc. was going to skip the Froyo update and go directly to the "gingerbread"  update.???  Froyo and gingerbread-----what does it all mean eh??

The operating system developer, Google, names its operating systems after a dessert. You have eclair 2.1 on your fascinate now. The next update that we have been waiting months for is called froyo 2.2 which stands for frozen yogurt. The one after that will be gingerbread and so on.
