depending on what's wrong with it, you might could get it repaired (could be cheaper than a new one); if Samsung won't, you may have some type of local cell phone repair shop

It was in an otterbox case. Makes me wonder how fragile they are. Evidently nothing is fool proof. Daughter dropped it from a height less than 4 ft

If it was in an Otterbox, you could look into what sort of warranty they may have. I know they are tough cases, but I don't know if they have included some sort of warranty against breakage while the phone is in the case.

http://www.otterbox.com/warranty/warranty,default,pg.html Only for the outterbox case not for anything outterbox did not manufacture.

Hi swanny59,
I can imagine the stress felt when you're SIII met the floor and broke. I'm sorry to hear you're in this situation. We want to ensure that you get the options to get a new phone. Do you have other lines on the account that are eligible to upgrade? If so, you can use one of those lines to get a new phone and not worry about a broken device. If that isn't an option, you can also buy a new device at retail value or a certified pre-owned device http://bit.ly/rcDvLW. Please let us know if you have other questions or concerns.
Thank you,

You might be able to find a replacement phone on eBay for cheaper than you can get a replacement phone from Verizon.
That's what my wife did when she broke her Galaxy Nexus phone, anyway.

I dropped mine, cracked the screen, and scuffed up the part of the case. I don't have Verizon replacement insurance, but if you do, that's the best answer. I don't so I called Verizon, and they connected me with Samsung repair, who fixed the phone for under $180.00. The local cell phone repair shops I contacted wanted $300 for the same job. The only trade-off was I was without my phone for 10 days, whereas local shops are much faster.
If your damage is more extensive than that, might still be worth getting a quote from Samsung.
Also, if you purchased the phone within 90 days of it getting broken, many credit cards include purchase protection insurance. That was the case for me, so the repair ended up costing me nothing.
