mesmerize recieved 2.2 today?

Did the mesmerize just receive 2.2 today? http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PRO... or is this old. Theres a date at the top that says 23-03-2011, how similar is this to our phone? do any of you think this means its getting closer?

You are correct the Mesmerize is getting froyo 2.2. Here is a link to an article on Android Central:

Not sure how close it is to the fascinate. As far as the fascinate getting froyo soon or if at all, only samsung and vzw knows for sure. When a much smaller company like U.S. Cellular can get froyo out before the giant vzw it makes vzw look puny! I've heard of companies being too big to fail but samsung and vzw may be too big to succeed!

So Basically its just a renamed fascinate **bleep**!?! Verizon is completely pathetic!! The fascinate was out before this phone now there getting the update before us Verizon come on???????????????????????????Now more Samsung phones are going to become available do you think imam going to buy them not!Upgrade this or ill be jumping ship here real gooses imam mad real mad..

maybe us didnt require all the **bleep** software that vzw does, therefore it was easier

now that they have it working on basically the same model, they may just be tweeking all the vzw stuff

 

 

aaaahhh if only vzw would get a vanilla phone

The goog thing is that this is like christmas for the developers and dental students as the source code has been released and can fill in a lot of gray areas.  Doesn't really help the average user though.

I had the same thoughts,  perhaps using this code as the basis for a fascinate without the bing.  Oh what a delightful thought, 2.2 and no bing.

its already been done with the leaked vzw 2.2 code, no bing

why? if your going to do that  you can get a leaked vzw 2.2 and put on there.

because the leaked vzw is still beta, not released, and it will have all the stuff vzw loves to put on phones, but I am no programmer and will not venture into areas that are likely to get me a $500 boat anchor with no warranty.

but you want to put the mesmerize on there? same thing

 

oh and the leaked vzw has been cleaned up of all the bloat, at least some of the versions.  you can get it stock, or superclean

Your point is well taken however,  if things went bad  with the mesmerise code, I could claim ignorance, "Hey it said schi500 and thats my phone so I used it"

Don't believe it'll work anyways as the Fascinate doesn't have a Kies mode afaik.  And you're more likely to end up with a paperweight after an OTA update than those unsaid methods.

well did everything in my limited toolbox to connect to kies and update my fascinate, couple of times I thought I was close, but all to no avail.  It was a great thought but, no cigar.

kies is like the worst program known to man.  On Tmobile and AT&T, it's the only way to get Froyo as they haven't pushed anything OTA.  And it doesn't work for Macs so the fruit users are out of luck.
