am i crazy, or do the features that are advertised on the new samsung galaxy s4 not included with verizon.
I noticed that my palm gestures never actually work. Is that a phone defect or is anyone else having the same issue? I am unable to capture a screen shot using palm gesture and when I go into settings for sensor and icon, it says when the air gestures are available, the icon will show up in the notification bar, however, i am not seeing anything show up. Furthermore, it would seem verizon is missing the blocking feature which should be in the setting menu under calls. Has anyone spoken to verizon about this yet? I just received my phone a few hours ago so I haven't had the chance to call yet. Thank you in advance.

I found that the gestures work fine on my phone - as long as I don't have the phone in the Otterbox. The case doesn't cover the sensor, so I don't know why it causes a problem. I've only had the phone a couple of days, so haven't really looked into it.
As for the blocked apps, I have a real problem with this, and plan to go talk to Verizon (as if that will do any good). I have been with V for several years, and been happy with their service, but this is my first smartphone. I have absolutely not use for companies that employ these screw-our-customers business plans. I'm stuck with them for 2 years, but I will definitely be looking into options after that. 3 days ago, I would have recommended Verizon to anyone. Now, I just see them as another big corporation that doesn't give a crap about their customers.

So true how Verizon is manipulating the phones, contracts and customers. They use to be the best in customer service but they don't seem to care anymore
I also have an outterbox cover and the gestures don't work for a screen capture picture.

You can hold down both the power button and the Home button to capture a screenshot.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Why not? Holding the power and home buttons simultaneously will capture a screenshot, as will palm motion if you have that feature activated (although, as others have noted, it may not work or not work well depending on the phone's case).

I tried it on mine as soon as I read your response. I had forgotten about doing it that way. I used to do it on my original Galaxy phone years ago. It didn’t work on my S4 until after about 20 tries. It may be because of my otter box. I do apologize for speaking out of turn. You were right. It does work.

vzw-tempname-54bad997-63f8-4f42-8bef-75afd27313e2, we want to you to know that our customers mean the world to us. Additionally, the safety and security of your device is our one of our primary concerns as well. As a result, the manufacturers of our devices have restricted the downloading of certain applications to avoid corrupting your phone and affecting the performance of it.

Lasinda_VZW, there are some differences between the Verizon version of the S4 and other companies. The T-Mobile version of the S4 has the Optical Reader, Blocking Mode, and an app called Samsung Apps (Samsung's version of the Google Play Store). All these features were originally advertised by Samsung to be on the S4 when it first arrived on the scene. You can get the app called Samsung Apps installed on the Verizon S4 from the Samsung website. For some odd reason Verizon decided to remove these features from the S4 before they started to sell them without letting their customers knowing about it.

To install Samsung Apps on your phone. Use the browser on the phone and go to apps.samsung.com.

Can someone enlighten me on how to do this? I've tried going to apps.samsung.com from the browser on my phone, but when I click on an app I want, it takes me to the description of the app and there is a button stating, "How To Get." When I click that button, a window opens stating, "Download from your device." There is no option to download from the web site. Am I missing something?

go here:
there is a link and detailed instructions. basically, you first download the "samsung app store" (like google play or amazon app store). then you can download the apps just like from the play store. you don't actually download the specific apps from the samsung app website. also, in your security settings, you have to allow for 3rd party apps to be installed.

Thank you for your help. The problem I was having was I use Google Chrome as my default browser. As soon as I tried using the built in Internet browser on my GS4, your instructions worked perfectly. Thank you again for your assistance.

I don't want to ruin this thread with an off-topic discussion, but I don't see why restricting services and apps that every other S4 owner gets helps to avoid corruption and performance of the phone. Especially not when the owner can turn services off or on, and choose whether or not to use built-in apps. At the very least, V should make it very clear when someone is buying the phone that it does not have all of the features that Samsung advertises. If you had done that, I'm sure I still would have gotten the phone through V, since I have liked your service, and told people that for many years. The difference is that I, the customer, would have made an informed decision, and would have been fine with it. Instead, I now feel like I've only been given part of what I paid for and V has just joined the ranks of big companies that obviously know more about what I really want more than I do. In fact, when I talked to the lady at the store (who was very nice and helpful), she actually said that perhaps the reason it is not there is because V decides which features their customers will or will not like. I like the advertised S4. Stop making my decisions for me without at least letting me know about it.

No we don't. It's all about the quick buck. The features removed have nothing to do with safety. Verizon is guilty of false advertising or Bait and Switch. Why do the floor models have the options, but then you send an OTA to get rid of it.
File a complaint with the BBB.

I had this problem - doing the calibration on the gyroscope did it - also, some don't work with Chrome, only the included browser.

I just filed a complaint with the BBB and think everyone else should too. They are pulling a bait and switch tactic. I just bought my phone the other day. The models in the store had blocking mode and other features on it. When i got home, my phone had those options as well. That night my phone received an OTA and in the morning it was gone.
The rep never said it would take away options that I wanted. That is why i bought the phone in the first place. An agent last night said that Verizon is planning on restoring it, in a future update, but who knows. I still think everyone should file a complain with the BBB. If anything, it's false advertising.

I got my Galaxy S4 almost a month ago, my 1st smartphone, so I've had to do a lot of learning - reading articles, forum posts, You Tube videos about tips on using the S4, etc. Many of the videos I've seen discuss the Blocking Mode in "Settings" under "Calls". I wondered if something was wrong with my phone then tonight checked this Verizon Community to see what others were saying about Blocking Mode. I am VERY disappointed to learn this feature is not included on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4. Why? As much as I paid for the phone I think all features that Samsung provides should be accessible to us. I hope Verizon will respond and answer my question so all of us will understand. Is this something that can be added to our phones remotely by Verizon, since it is feature that Samsung offers? It should be.

I was told by my Verizon retailer, that this a bug, and a release is in the works. No timeframe for its release.
