who thinks verizion's 250$ pricetag vs at&t's price of 99$ is stupid?

i am due for an upgrade on 3 phones. 750$ with verizion or 300 $ with at&t. I think I have to switch on principle alone.

A lot of bad decisions are made "on principle alone."

You got to shop around.  Verizion at my local Wall Mart has them for $168

Not sure where you get $99 for AT&T. It is $200 on the AT&T website, the same as on Verizon after a $50 mail in rebate.

If at&t works for you and your family where you need it to work then yes go with them but changing to at&t just because of the less money for the phones would not be the thing to do if after you get these phones they don't work where you need them to work.  That would end up being very costly to you because you would end up with a 2 year contract that would be very costly should you decide at&t just does not work for you and your family.  I know it does not work at my house at all.  Good luck with it if you change to at&t.

I think he must be talking about trading in his old phones to AT&T to get 50% off/ up to 100 dollars off deal.

I would say it's likely a better Idea to sell your old phones your self if you can via e-bay or Craigslist.

I would not pick AT&T just over the price of the phone's alone. Though if they both work about the same in your area or if AT&T works better for you then that may be the way to go. Good luck with what ever you end up doing OP.

I looked at multiple deals, bestbuy has a trade in program and then get a $50 GC with upgrade, ATT has their deal and other companies have the phone for around $160 with 2 - year. Grant it, I think Verizon should have it $199 but thats another story for another day, but then I guess they do, you just need to wait for the $50 rebate (which I wish was instant),

Now for what to do with your old phone, e-bay it or craigslist it, thats your best option.

Buy it from Verizon on-line for $200.

Now my local Wall Mart has it for 168.00 and they throw in a 50.00 gift card, so that makes it 118.00.  Pretty dam low for this phone.

Make sure you know what the other stipulations are, if any, and they are worth the $82 savings vs ordering from Verizon.

No other stipulations.  Standard Verizion 2 year contract.  The manager says they can offer better deals than other Verizion stores because they buy phones in huge quantities and they don't mess around with rebates. I went this route with my last Galaxy phone and received all the support I requested through Verizion.

I would check again. From Walmart's website you have the following in addition to a $350 ETF which Verizon would charge you if you cancelled service, bringing the ETF up to $375 for basic phones and $750 for smartphones if service is either cancelled or possibly even changed within the 1st 181 days.

"You agree to repay $200 of this discount ($400 for smartphones, tablets, and netbooks) and authorize us to charge your credit card in repayment of this amount if, you signed up for a 2 year agreement and during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, your carrier notifies us that the services you purchased have been suspended, disconnected, or deactivated, or if you return your purchase outside of the return and exchange provisions of our 14-day Satisfaction Guarantee.

Please note some of the reasons your carrier may notify us of a deactivation include if:

  • You transfer this equipment to another line of service after it is activated
  • You change your rate plan to a lower monthly service rate than was specifically required at the point of purchase
  • You deactivate texting/data features that were specifically required at the point of purchase
  • The new line of service activated with your order is used to replace a pre-existing account"

That's crazy.  This is why I would order the phone from Verizon on-line for $200 and pay $82 more.  The initial purchase price is not all someone needs to consider.
