I bought an s4 new at Verizon in 2013.  After contract was up I purchased a used note 3 and just swapped the SIM card. My account shows the note 3 as my phone. My question is does my assurion plan now cover my note 3 or is there any additional steps needed to cover the note 3 and not the s4.

No, the Assurion coverage does not cover the Note 3.

If the Assurion charge is still being charged to your account, you should have it stopped as you are no longer using the phone which is covered.

For Assurion to cover the Note 3, you will have to wait for a period Verizon offers occasionally where you can cover a phone which is active on your line which does not have insurance.

Uh oh.  Asurion told me that as long as I was paying a premium monthly on my Verizon bill that whichever phone was activated was the phone that was covered.  Of course, I could only have 2 claims in 12 months.  I'm looking for the terms of the coverage agreement, but have yet to find it.

While it is possible, I can't imagine this to be the case. If you have more than 1 line, why not just cover 1 phone then. If something such as a screen shatters on one of the lines without coverage, you would just be able to move it to the covered line in order to have the broken phone covered. Lowers the price of coverage.

I have one line and 2 phones.  I know the Verizon extended warranty covers whichever is activated. They really did replace my secondary backup phone while I waited for a replacement of my primary phone.  Primary just didn't work and secondary would not OTA update at all.  That is an example of Verizon covering the extended warranty portion, but While I have not had to file a claim with Asurion, this is what I was told.  And, we all know how it goes when we are told something and haven't researched it ourselves.  The terms of Asurion's coverage is either right in front of me and I don't see it, or it's hidden elsewhere because I cannot find it.

Asurion covers whichever phone is on the line. Be advised though that although you may be able to get over on them once in a while, if you don't think asurion has ways of knowing that people are gaming them, you're way off. They will ask very specific questions about when the damage occurred, and it will easily raise a huge red flag when they look at your Verizon account, which they will have access to, and see that the phone that you are making the claim on was recently moved from a line with no coverage to one that has coverage.

This is true.  They will look for recent use of data, text and calls.  You can't really just take a phone out of a drawer and have them replace it after x amount of unused time, it has to be a somewhat recently used device and active.

Wonder why they do it this way? Well, the business sense is as follows: Firstly, most people won't think to commit fraud this way, or won't want to risk it, or are just good honest people. Secondly, even if they do, its not like it would be a devastating financial blow. They process claims every day, its part of what they do. Claims aren't free new phones they are sending out, they are generally refurbished phones with a significant deductible.

Finally, the last thing they want to do is require that their feature be removed for any reason. Retaining customers is much simpler with a seamless transition between devices. This way, the customer needs not even have the idea of cancelling the insurance even brought up. And besides, every time they add the feature, they have to mail out a policy brochure. That is extra processing and postage cost.

Was able to talk to someone at Verizon.  They told me I needed to bring phone into a store so they could verify that it had no damage.  Will try that and see what happens.  Thanks for all the responses.
