Audio problems for my Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Why can't I hear callers when I call them or they call me?   I have to use my blue tooth device or put it on speaker phone. This is not good because my blue tooth is not always charged. Why am I and others having this problem; however Verizon or Samsung have not done a recall on these devices.  They cost entirely too much for us to have these problems??!!
