I hope this isn't more problems with this phone, I am already having trouble with the one I bought for myself, it just shuts off for no reason, and the one I bought for my daughter gets extremely warm just sitting on a glass kitchen table.

Samsung cannot confirm anything until they investigate. I pray this is not true and that it wasn't a replacement device!! We just replaced my son's Note 7 with a new one and thought this nightmare was over!! I hope they get to the bottom of this quickly and that they tell us the truth when they do.
There's a few things that need to be determined. First, it needs to be ascertained it is a replacement Note 7. Then they'll need to see if it is a widespread problem - unfortunately lithium batteries seem vulnerable to overheating, something that's happened with iPhones, early Samsung phones, etc. (For example, one of the Note 7 stories widely reported, about a child who had the phone overheat while watching a video, was actually a different Samsung phone.)
Hoping it isn't indicative a problem with the replacement unit in general.
The owner said the phone was turned off. A simple fact is that a battery that is not being used (meaning phone turned off) can not overheat.
If it turn out the story is not true, chances are the media will never report it. As an example, the media reported a person in Tampa claiming a Note 7 set his Jeep on fire, but the media never reported the Fire Department said the fire was not started by a phone and he did not own any type of phone made by Samsung. I am not trying to defend Samsung but the media only reports what will make a headline.
2 days and still no word it this story is true, yet the online media is telling people that the Note series is done. I wonder how long it takes for Samsung and the FAA to complete their investigation??
I am seriously confused by this. I have read numerous articles online about this. I don't know the full details about the original Note 7 in Tampa, but I do think it was a Note 7. I hope you were right that it wasn't, but I have not found any articles contradicting that. My understanding on the Southwest Airlines flight was that it was a replacement Note 7 that he was powering off when it started smoking. So I believe it wasn't off. I believe he was powering it off. However, it seems like to me that the media is against this phone for some reason. I know they said they are going to investigate, but let's assume it was a replacement note 7 that caught fire on this flight. Isn't it still possible that it was just 1 defective unit? This is still a machine. There are defective products out there that doesn't make the whole line of that product bad. That's why there are lemon laws. You could have 1 bad car. There have been bad laptops, iPods and iPhones. There have been 1 offs on many items. Why are they assuming the worst in this? All the carriers are now willing to let you exchange your phone for another. AT&T is thinking about suspending sales. I really don't get it. I know they want to make sure the consumer is safe, but 1 event doesn't necessarily make all the replacement Note 7s bad. Even the original note 7 had something like, I believe, .001% estimated defective devices. I agree with Samsung that that was too many and that is why they recalled it. I happened to believe mine was ok. It was the "coolest" phone I ever owned. My note 4 got extremely hot and that wasn't recalled nor did it seem like anyone even cared. It may have been defective. My replacement note 7 got somewhat warm just like my original one did when I first did its original update. But since then, it hasn't gotten warm at all. I don't understand why Samsung just can't figure out if this is just an isolated incident (just like all machines - lemon law) or if this is a much bigger issue. It seems to me like it is an isolated incident because it is the only negative thing I've heard of about the replacement Note 7s. And if it is, I wish the media would let it go. This way Samsung can work on getting some of the software that was promised like, Action Memo and S-Translator. I have to believe that Samsung should be able to test this with their inventories to make sure the replacement devices are safe. I am sorry for rambling. I am sure just like everyone else, I would like to put this behind me once and for all.
I guess I might have spoken too soon. There may have been 2 other phones with issues. They're still not sure if they were replacement Note 7s yet, but if they confirm all of them as replacements that would make a total of 3 phones with issues unfortunately. I don't know if that necessarily means the whole line has issues, but it is not a good way to start. I really hope not because I really love this phone so far. However, hope for the best expect the worst. I am not sure if I am crazy about the Pixel XL. So when is the LG V20 coming out? Will Verizon at least allow the annual/50% of payment upgrade for the Pixel XL or LG V20? This way in case they still have problems and we have to change phones, we could at least upgrade in 2017 to the Note 8. I still would prefer the S pen. Like I said, hopefully we have nothing to worry about. Just want to have a plan in place as a just in case measure.
Most likely Owner set it up the whole thing but he was Dumb and didn't know Phone can't catch a fire or spark when it is turn off!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably Apple Fan...........
The more I think of that Southwest flight story it just doesn't make sense. Supposedly the guys friend went back on the plane because he forgot a bag and that's when he snapped the picture of the charred phone and carpeting. Would the airline personnel really allow a customer to go back to the plane that was just EVACUATED due to a FIRE??? I don't think so!!! And the article said the guy had already replaced the burned phone with an IPhone 7, and that article was within a few hours of the incident. Is that even possible??? I could be wrong but aren't they backordered? Even if he was able to get one, good for him that after such a frightening experience he was able to mosey on in to an AT&T store and replace the phone just like that.
