A phone will have a toggle to immediately mute all sounds, and potentially just provide vibrations to notify you of events. Most all smart phones have such a setting.
Your device's manual is found here:
http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/samsung-galaxy-note4/smart-samsung-galaxy-note4-ug.pdf
see page 28 for example. Pull down the notification shade/panel, and scroll till you see the button for sound. Pressing it you should be able to place it on vibrate as is shown in that image.
Also see page 132.

I'm sorry your phone is still paying sounds after you have turned them off powchutu. Select Apps > Settings> Sound > Volume > & adjust the following
• Ringtone
• Music, video, games and other media.
• Notifications
• System
Please let me know if you are able to adjust all the sound settings.

I don't have the facebook app installed on my device. With that program running, and you press the equivalent of Menu, is there a configuration option to adjust sound?
If not, I suppose you might try just putting the phone on Silent or Vibrate and leaving it there?

Thank you for checking those settings, powchutu. Were you able to disable the sound settings by referencing the pages that stef7 provided? If you are still having problems with sounds on Facebook please try these steps: http://on.fb.me/1JG7j3X
