Information on the lock screen

The recent software update allows information to appear on the phone's lock screen that, prior to this update, could be turned off.  Has anyone found a way to stop the information (such as text message information) from appearing on the locked screen?  I think that this is a privacy issue and should be something that is an option in settings.  Thank you for your feedback and assistance.
