Note 4: messages not going through!

Suddenly (as of this a.m. for the 1st time), my text messages "fail," i.e., are not sent;  this happens with wifi, mobile data, or both turned on.

Any ideas appreciated!

jmarkc, being able to communicate via text is a must. I welcome the opportunity to assist you with this matter. I just need a few more details. Are you able to receive messages? What messaging application is being used on your device (stock application, Verizon Messages+ or other 3rd party messaging application)? Often failures are due to signal issues or service blocks so ensuring those aren't present would be ideal.
