Stock message app

Ever since the Oreo update the messaging app that came with the phone no longer allows me to set specific tones for each person in my contacts when the send me a text. I now have to use the verizon message plus app which I hate to be able to do this. When will there be an update to fix this issue? I have already went thru the settings and notifications ane everywhere else i can think of.
