how did my software version changed from 5.1.1 to 5.0.1

Few weeks ago I upgraded my Verizon Note 2 to Note 4.  It came with version 5.1.1 of android software.  Recently there was second software update issued and now my phone shows version 5.0.1 - is this possible?  Why?

After downgrading (by accepting software upgrade) I had to reinstall all my apps and phone still kept on crashing on touchwiz home screen as well as s finder - has anyone experienced this issue?

I thought that normally (??) upgrade means a newer version not going back.

Can anyone explain and provide some assistance?

Thanks.

hvdesai2014,

What an odd thing to hear happening on your new Note 4! How long have you had the new Note? When did the "update" come through? Can you let us know what version it is showing in settings? This link will show you how: http://vz.to/1gYf3XM

hvdesai2014, to the best of my knowledge the Note 4 from Verizon has not got the 5.1.1 update yet.  We got Lollipop 5.0.1 on April 2015 and then an another update (still 5.0.1) on July 13, 2015.

I upgraded the phone in June 2015 at Costco.  When I checked the version on the phone, it did show 5.1.1..  The update schedule was sometime last week and when applied it came to be 5.0.1.....

The phone worked fine until I accepted to upgrade (normally it would be newer version not an earlier version).

The only way I know is to download the Verizon repair utility, wipe my phone clean and repair the version.  It takes a lot of effort and that should not be done.

It is very disappointing.

The only thing that seems to make sense is that Costco had a different version of Lollipop on the phone when you purchased it.  Then when you got it activated through Verizon, Verizon noticed it as a new phone that had not got the latest update (July version of 5.0.1) and sent it to your phone.  If you do the Verizon repair utility, you will still end up with 5.0.1 since this is the only version that Verizon has for the Note 4 at this time.
