Yesterday, March 30, 2017, Samsung / Google / Verizon updated my S7 to the latest OS without my permission which is wrong. I should have the option to choose when or even IF I want to upgrade my phone's OS.
I had a chat with a Verizon customer service rep and was told Verizon has no control over that. I say that is a line of bunk. Verizon can absolutely control what goes over their network.
I spoke with a Samsung tech and was told the forced update is a collaboration between Google, Samsung and Verizon. Was I told untruth during the chat session? Possibly.
Anyway, listen up Verizon... YOU SHOULD NOT BE PUSHING UPDATES TO USER'S DEVICES WITHOUT THE USER'S PERMISSION. If Verizon didn't push it then YOU SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWING THIRD PARTIES TO PUSH UPDATES TO USER'S DEVICES THROUGH YOUR NETWORK WITHOUT THE USER'S PERMISSION!
An option to update now, update later or not to update at all should be offered.

Today, June 29, 2017, another unauthorized software update was forced to my phone. Pay close attention Verizon, this is absolutely unacceptable. I own the phone so I and only I should have control over when and IF an update downloads and installs.
One more time and I'm done as a Verizon customer. Look at my account and you will know how long I have been a customer.

You should prepare yourself for it happening on the other networks and unlocked devices too.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

My wife uses an AT&T iPhone through her employer. It does not happen with her device.

Verizon has your permission to update your software right in your customer agreement for service-
"Please be aware that we may change your wireless device's software, applications or programming remotely, without notice."
Customer Agreement | Verizon Wireless
As does Google in the terms & conditions you had to agree to in order to use their services-.
"When a Service requires or includes downloadable software, this software may update automatically on your device once a new version or feature is available. We are constantly changing and improving our Services. We may add or remove functionalities or features, and we may suspend or stop a Service altogether."

We have 2 S7 Edge and the one updated by itself today but the other one asked first. We have had smart phones now for several years and this was the first time that one of our phones did this on their own

It's an iPhone. It has nothing to do with the carrier.
Android updates can be refused a couple of times, then are forced. If you get a notice, go back when convenient and trigger the update yourself.

mama23dogs, I have been delaying the Nougat update every day for months. With my S7, I never installed KitKat because of all the servious problems it caused users. I was never forced to install it.

We are referring to security patches. OS updates cannot be forced as they require wifi.

You know that is weird now that you mention about Wifi mama23dogs because I have found that if I disconnect my wifi and turn the mobile off my phone it downloads updates pretty quick and I do not lose any mobile data and I am not connected to my wifi. I have asked about this on here in other post but no one has said anything
