App badge/ notification on s7 edge

I am no longer getting app badge notifications since the Oreo update.  I've cleared the cache, checked all notification settings, toggled the buttons, and reset the phone. This is very frustrating when we're forced to update at our expense,  yet it makes the phone not work correctly.

Unfortunately, as many, many S7 users have learned and complained about here, Oreo removed many of the notification customization features previously available.

Hello Shellbent, it is important to review your notifications Settings. Please follow the steps below:

  • Swipe down from the top of your screen to reveal the Notification Shade.
  • Tap on the Settings button in the top right corner
  • Tap on the Sounds and Vibration
  • Tap on Notification Sounds.
  • From here you can change notification sounds
  • To change the sound of your device notifications tap on default notification sound.
  • Tap on the name of a sound to preview and select it.
  • Tap the back key to exit

You will also need to make sure that the notification sound volume of the phone is set to its maximum level. You can do this by pressing on the volume up key.

Notification settings have nothing to do with why my app badges aren't working.

I apologize for the mix-up on our part. Go into Settings > Notifications > App icon badges. Ensure that this is enabled. If on, go to Settings> Notification> Advanced (upper right corner). Ensure that the app is set to allow.

This allows one to change the sound for ALL text messages.  Prior to the update, we had the ability to individualize the sounds for texts that were different for different contacts (similar to having specific ringtones for specific people).  Can this be restored?

DAVIDSF.99, being able to customize individual text messaging sounds is something a lot of customers, such as yourself, want to accomplish in order to fully enjoy their phone capabilities. We want to provide a resolution. Some customers have had issues with losing the ability to make customized ringtones for their text messages. This was removed with Oreo 8.0, but it just came back with an update from Samsung using their own app store on 6/26/2018. Using the default texting application (not Verizon wireless Messages) open up the app and go to Settings > About Messages. You should have an option to update the app via the Galaxy App store (Samsung Account login required). Version 5.0.21.18 has an update that allows you to customize texts per conversation (not per contact). This is an alternative solution to your issue.

Have you tried the Google Messages application instead?
