My battery does not last thru the night with a full charge before bed. Android OS is using the most battery then Android system followed by a few things with single digit usage like weather. I get random pop-ups that contacts has stopped working when I was doing nothing with phone or contacts.

It also overheats very bad and shuts itself off, sometimes when not in use.

So, you've posted in a few threads about the many issues plaguing your device.

Tell me, did you ever back up your personal content and perform a Factory Data Reset?

First thing, there are some people that claim disabling Facebook, and Facebook Messenger has improved their device's ability to run a long time without recharging. Have you tried this? Do so and reboot the device.

Have you also determined if your device is constantly hunting for a stronger WiFi signal? I think you have an option for this under Settings | WiFi | Advanced, and turning off Smart Switch or there may be something associated with Search for Stronger Wifi or something like that. I apologize, I don't have your device. Infact, one interesting test for you... Turn off WiFi. How long does your phone's battery last when you do that?

Next, some people have claimed improved device operation after clearing low-level cache. Have you tried that?

If you've done both of the stuff above, and still are only getting a few hours of operating time on battery (it seems to me, doing just about nothing) if it were me, I would backup my personal content and perform a FDR, and disable FB and FB messenger and check the above stuff again.

Then - I would not initially install anything (I mean anything) but the most critical 3rd party applications that you must have to use your device, thus lessening the possibility that a 3rd party program is culprit. I would go three days like this, with three discharge / charge cycles and see if the battery longevity is better.

Of course YMMV. Good luck to you.

I apologize, I meant to add. If things are improved, then slowly, over a period of time, I would add in applications that you found were nice to have. Possibly then you could correlate to when you install something, if a 3rd party app is the thing that is nixing your battery charge.

Try to rule out the use of one of the radios (WiFi or Cellular). You can go into Settings | WiFi, select the menu and check "Show WiFi". Then when you go back in, you can see what programs are communicating via the Cellular Radio, or the WiFi radio. Generally, those may be at root cause for battery depletion.

I think I read somewhere in a thread here, people think the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in the device may be consuming a lot of energy. If that's the case, I would think a patch would be necessary. The thing here is some people claiming their battery longevity has never been better than what it is with Lollipop.

It's possible, there are low-level HW build differences with devices, and necessary changes with drivers. It's hard to know why some people are having issues, and others not... But you have to be your own advocate and try to do as much sluething as possible.

Regards.

It may also be worth turning off Google Location Reporting and Google Location History, I have found those to be serious battery consumers on certain devices only.

Yes, I have posted in a few other threads, awareness is key! As I’ve stated in other posts. I have done all I can to make my phone usable. It worked PERFECT before this lolliflop update. Now I have to basically shut off everything just so it’ll last all day. Which is unacceptable. As frustrating as it was, and painstakingly time consuming. I did a FDR, wiped the cache, removed apps, etc. Removed FB and the messenger app, turned off smart switch, I have tried everything that I’ve seen suggested. It got slightly better for like a day! Turning off my WiFi isn’t really an option for me. I have 3 teenagers on my data plan…  My frustration is that I have to do those things now, not before, NOW. I might as well just not carry the phone with me!! It’s useless without the tools I have them for... I’ve been dealing with this for over a month now… I have been proactive, researching and trying to figure out this nightmare. Testing this and testing that.  I would like to have my phone back to working order and apparently Verizon isn't going to send out any info or a statement.... What I don't get is why only some people have issues and others don't! I just wish SOMEONE would take ownership of this colossal mess and let us know, that they know, and that they are working on fixing it!

I don't think SOMEONE taking ownership is going to work I think it is going to be crowd-source solution or more like solutions since it seems that everyone is experiencing (or not experiencing) different issues.  If either of the S5 phones in my house were having issues I would be all over trying to solve their issues.

I don't know, you'd be surprised at just how many people need to hear "we messed up, and we're diligently working to fix it". Crowd sourcing is great, if its effective and you have knowledgeable people giving out info..for every 50 people complaining, you have 1 person who is honestly trying to help, like GalaxyClass. People are angry, and they have every right to be... it would be nice, if we got some feedback from the people who pushed this out to us unsuspecting souls....

The "turn off wifi" suggestion was simply another way to try to narrow down your draining battery issue, which I take it is the remaining problem for you...

So then, if you go into Settings | Mobile Data and then Menu, then select "Show WiFi", now when you go into the Settings | Mobile Data, you will see two tabs, one for Cellular Data, and one for WiFi data. Scrolling down on either of those tabs will show the heavy consumers of data.

Are you synching your email often? Are you backing up to the cloud? Are you running some other social media program that is consuming CPU cycles and radio bandwidth?

It takes energy (Battery) to communicate via WiFi. That doesn't make your phone a sipper of power. See if anything stands out.

That battery graph was next to useless for diagnosing problems. Just try what I've suggested.

And yes, I KNOW you need to use WiFi. I'm trying to help you determine if there is one program that is utilizing your WiFi connection a lot that may be the source of poor battery longevity.

See if that is helpful. You don't want your phone to be constantly scanning for stronger WiFi connections.
