Amber_VZW, you obviously haven't read the myriad of complaints from S7, S8, and S9 users about Oreo removing the notification customization features many, many users can no longer use. Why don't you and your colleagues go to your upper management and let Samsung know about this fiasco, and get them to fix it???

This mess just confirms to me that I won't ever update my S7 from Marshmallow.

Actually it is likely amberd_vzw.

How likely is it that anything will be done?

Unfortunately, the unhappy users, no matter how many there may be out there, have no leverage other than go to another type of phone.  And, if they're like me, that would be very difficult to do.  Frankly, I am very happy with my S7.  As you have probably seen from my posts, I haven't done any updates to the phone for nearly two years.  This stared when Nougat did its deal on the phones and I delayed the update for so long, the reminders stopped.  Now, the only way I can do any update is to use the Samsung Software Upgrade Assistant.  At this point, the only thing wrong with the phone is battery usage.  I could update it to the S8 or S9, but I'm perfectly happy with the S7.  The S9 reviews are not that great.  There is a pattern of user complaints about the Bixby button.  And, of course, the phone costs nearly $1K.  The bottom line for me in keeping the S7 is I don't want to go through the misery of setting up a new phone.  That's part of the reason for not updating it.  I fear that the lack of updates for such a long period of time might result in an FDR, which I want to avoid at all costs.

Perhaps you could consider changing which manufacturer you purchase. I let my phone complete its updates as soon as possible and I don't have problems. I don't purchase Samsung phones.

I liked Motorola until their update process became unreliable. Now I prefer Google's line, the Pixel phones. I have used phones made by HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, Google, and briefly the "fruit" phone.

In the distant past, I have had several of the brands you mention.  I'm the only one in my family who doesn't have a 'fruit' phone,  I will never have one for a couple of reasons.  The primary one is the absence of the back button.  On many apps, the only way to go back is to close the app and reopen it.  The other reason is the control that Apple wants and has over the phones.  Should I switch from Samsung, is there a way to transfer, wirelessly or otherwise, the information from my phone to a new one?  Would the SD card I have work in a new phone?

I appreciate your input.  Thanks.

I have one son with a "fruit" phone and one with the S7 like me. Both my son with the S7 and I have toyed with the idea this last year of going fruit phone but still haven't made the switch. Unless Samsung does something quickly about this new upgrade to fix all of the problems we are having I will definitely be going fruit phone. Can't speak for my son but wouldn't surprise me if he is leaning the same way. Samsung really made a mistake on this one!!!!

Just googled your question and it does not seem to be to difficult. I didn't know it would be that easy.
