Email app sudden data usage

Newbie

I have a Verizon samsung J3 and used the J3 embedded email app. It's set to use WI-fi if available.

I never use much cell data, less than .5 GB, and am usually in a WiFi. I am a light email and app user.

All the sudden, the email app started using data, both cell and wi-fi. It used 2 GB of cell in two days, and another 2 GB wifi.

I turned off mobile data, and stopped the sync on the email app.

My email accounts on the server look ok. I don't see anything odd in the sent catagory

Could this be a virus I got in a attachment, or a bad app hijacking my email?

get a few big pics or videos in the email & the data gets used if no wi-fi.

kts3, that's quite a concern considering your average data usage. This data spike from the email app can be an email sync issue or an email getting stuck in your sent folder. Have you restarted your phone since this became an issue?

A separate app on your phone wouldn't impact your email directly. Please download and use our Digital Secure app to run an Anti-Virus scan on your phone. You can learn more here: http://spr.ly/6602ELwu2

If needed, most email providers now offer their own user-friendly app that you can download from the Google Play Store. Using the email provider app versus the native email app from Samsung is more reliable in my personal experience.

How strange. It would be alarming to me as well to see the email usage go haywire like that. What’s the email domain? Is it a public one like Yahoo.com or Hotmail.com?
In these steps, had attachments been set to auto-download ?
