How can I unlock a Galaxy S5?

I have a Galaxy S5 that I want to give to a friend to use with a different provider. Is it a locked phone? If not, how can I get it unlocked?

We certainly want your friend to enjoy the Galaxy S5, Lucsne76. Good news, we don't lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to use it with other carries. Here's additional information on our device unlocking policy. www.verizon.com/about/consumer-safety/device-unlocking-policy

Mine is acting as if it is factory locked. It will not accept another carrier. When it boots up is says Verizon in a Big RED Banner with no sim card inserted. Inserting another carrier's Sim gives an error "No Verizon Sim Installed" Why is this?

If Verizon Doesn't lock devices then why do they have an unlocking policy?

"In order to mitigate theft and other fraudulent activity, newly purchased devices are “locked” to work exclusively on the Verizon network
