Husband's flip phone data speed is way faster than my Galaxy S7?

I used to have a Moto e4 and I recently switched to a Galaxy S7. My husband has a Kyocera Cadence LTE. We're on the exact same plan. He has sight issues so he loves his flip phone; he uses his data as a hotspot for a tablet because smartphones are too small for him to see.

I've tried to upload photos to some websites several times using my S7 and it just times out or says I don't have a connection, even though I'm able to browse different sites. Today I saw his hotspot available in wifi so I used it. I was able to do the uploads that timed out on mine.

Did some speed tests immediately afterwards - when I used his phone for internet access, the result was 4.29 mbps down and .65 up, another test was 3.83 down and .52 up.

My test using my phone's data was 2.79 mbps and .18 up, most were lower than that. I briefly had a good connection and got 2.82 down with .29 up. Two of my tests showed a big fat "0" on upload speed.

I used device maintenance to clear caches and optimize everything. I limited background data and battery on most of my apps. I went into Maintenance Boot Mode and wiped the cache partition. None of it helped. Is the Galaxy S7 just weak on getting the LTE signal? I don't recall having this much trouble uploading photos from my Moto e4, but the S7 has a much better camera. Help!

I can definitely understand your concerns with not being able to successfully upload photos and experiencing slow upload data speeds using the Mobile Hotspot feature on you and your husband’s devices. I’d love the opportunity to further investigate this data issue with you.

Have you noticed this happening only when you’re using your devices at your home, or is this happening everywhere you travel with your devices? If this is only happening at home and in your local area, please provide me the nearest cross streets, city, state and zip code of the problem location. Lastly, are you experiencing any problems with your calls or texts at this location or is this only affecting your data connections?

It's most noticeable at home, and that's where I need it the most. Zip code is 72623. Is it the phone? I've found other discussions in this forum with people having the same problem. I just need to know if it's the phone. I'll sell this stupid thing and get another, but I need to know if an s8 plus has a stronger antenna. I can't afford to go any higher but I do need a better camera than what I had in the Motorola.

Receiver hardware on phones varies and it's much more than the antenna. Some receive signals better than others. Verizon won't be able to give you a true answer to your question. It's pretty much trial and error. I've had some phones receive better than others. Overall, new phones now will usually receive better than old model phones, at least in my experience.
