Latest software update corrupted my SD card

I just updated my software on my S8 and all of a sudden the SD card that's been in my phone, worry free since I got this thing is now not showing up anywhere in my files and in the storage feature in settings... Is now showing corrupted. That's years of files, memories and photos gone that I can't get back. I even tried the SD card in a different device and same thing happened. May not mean much to Samsung but Def meant alot to me. Worse part is as soon as I started doing research on this... There were tons of people reporting the same thing happened to them.

the card went bad & needs to be replaced, no issue with the update.

Well my SD card worked fine before the update and was corrupt after, so I would think the update caused the problem as it has in the past.

It's obviously too late now, but you should always remove the SD card before doing a system update.

No, it's not too late necessarily!!! If the OP did not format the card or write to the card they think is corrupted, it's likely the data can be recovered. The OP would have to place the card in a microSD reader, or a SD Card Carrier, depending on computer, and run a utility program that can locate the files. Some programs like Wondershare Data Recovery can even restore the file structure (but I'm not sure I would trust it afterwards). This utility isn't free, but it may be worth it to the OP. There might be "free" recovery programs out there. You'd have to do some looking via Google.

Samsung SG7E phone FW updates caused my SD card to show as corrupted also.

The last two Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phone firmware updates caused my SD card to show as corrupted. It is not! You can see the corrupted status in settings/storage and will notice by many apps not working, and all your data being gone. Just restart the phone again, and it will be fine! I know this, so have avoided taking actions that would have lost all of my data, but others may not. Seems like this is a new normal. 😞

I have an LG G4 that randomly rebooted or updated - I may have inadvertently ok'ed the update after months of not now. Anyway after it's update it wiped a 32 GB SD card which had not been backed up. Yes I'm stupid knowing this is my 4th replacement of the phone. I immediately removed the card. I tried several apps and It wiped the card just overwrote the old structure with the same names. I know the feature to wipe the card was not selected so I can't figure out why it would do this. I even tried it in my old rooted Droid X and I'm at a loss. I've never not been able to recover data. Why would a phone update without permission and wipe an SD card. Anybody manage to have success let me know.what you used.

Kford1040, the scenario you describe is exactly why the SD card should be removed before system updates are installed.
