My 8 day old Galaxy s7 screen went "BLACK" and made a screeching noise, What should I do?

I was on my phone talking to a friend, suddenly my phone quit working the screen went Black and made a screeching sound.

  I powered it down and that was that. Tomorrow I will be returning it to Verizon, hopefully for a replacement. I guess I'm lucky I still have 5 days to return it before my 14 days are up. Am I doing the right thing? Can anyone shed some light on what happened.
