NG6 update my phone reboots and notification/menu changes are slow/lag. When will an update be released to fix this?

I have already troubleshot this device, it is clear the update is corrupted. I expect an official response with a time frame on a future update to resolve these issues.

I am having the exact same problem after I updated my galaxy s4 to ng6... How can an update make my phone almost unusable... very disappointed with Verizon. Please don't try to blame it on Samsung because ATT and other carrier devices are working perfectly fine. That being said, I expect another update, fix, or a way to downgrade from verizon soon. This is so frustrating.

I am having a similar issue as described above. Phone calls also cause my device to restart unexpectedly. I was talking on the phone the other night and it restarted 3 times in the 45 min conversation. My device had no issues prior to installing this update. I had my phone connected to a power source and didn't mess with it while the update was installing. On top of the restarts now both Hangouts and Messaging crash randomly when I try to send texts. Also after coming back from a lock screen some times the touch screen wont register correctly and I have to lock and unlock the phone again.

I feel like this is a clever way to make us buy a new phone. -.- Nexus 6 might be coming sooner for me than expected.

I just spoke to a Verizon rep and she claims it is a "known issue" and an update should be released soon. If this is true, why aren't forum reps not able to obtain this information? Are you guys limited on what you can access or research?

It's a progress that verizon admitted it as a "known issue". I will wait for the update/fix i guess... cuz i don't want to do all the factory reset.. strange thing is that my friend's phone (verizon s4) is working perfectly fine after the update. I suppose it is a software clashing kind of issue. Anyways, thanks for posting info on this issue Smiley Happy i will also let you know if I get any fix or info on it.

I was able to fix mine.

I had the same issue for the past week, random reboots, home screen unresponsive after unlocking. apps crashing. I had tried several fixes including:

  • Starting in "Safe Mode"
  • Removed all home screen widgets
  • Clearing specific program cache (specifically the internal program responsible for the home screen)
  • Rebooting into "recovery" and trying to clear the cache partition (this involves starting the phone using the home button, volume up button and power button)
  • Factory reset.

I still had problems after all of these suggested solutions in other threads.

The final solution was to plug my phone in to a windows machine, install the "Upgrade Assistant" program, and then use the Repair option. Since it took quite a while to download the software that was installed, and it appeared to go into the low level phone flashing screen, it probably did more than a factory reset.

I'm curious if the problem was partially a failed update, and possibly not the NG6 update. I noticed that my system menu looks different and Audible, an app I use very frequently appears to have upgraded to a newer version that was not available prior to the "repair". It's possible that my phone has been slightly wrong for some time and this last update exposed all the difficulty.

Good luck on the official response.  With all the issues with this update, you'd think VZW/Samsung would stop the update and fix the problems.  This happens with nearly every Samsung update.  I think I'm switching to the new Moto phone coming out tomorrow.

Simply downgrading back to NC5 and performing a wipe can fix the issue as well, and not upgrading back to NG6. Not sure if it voids the warranty or not, but I would assume not because it is simply the stock NC5 version of the phone with all the bloatware and Verizon specific stuff.

This update made some fundamental changes to how your phone operates.   Notification buttons have disappeared, Applications and functions that would have not been activated automatically in the NC5 version are now turned on after the NG6 update.  GPS, Hands Free, and Google Music is just a few of the items that I've found that turn themselves on in the background without my approval.  All of these contribute to the loss of battery life.  By going back and tweaking the settings on these applications, I've been able to fully restore the lifespan of my battery.  By the way, both of my S4's took the update successfully, but I did some preliminary cleanup beforehand to ensure success.

If your phone is constantly rebooting, the root cause is most likely caused by an non-stock application that was downloaded whose architecture is incompatible with the NG6 operating system.  Verizon support is recommending people perform a "reset" because that removes the existance of everything but the Samsung/Verizon sanctioned applications.

Like many here, I would prefer not to update the OS on my device so long as it functions like it was intended.  I do not share your opinion that the update was corrupted since most devices accept it without issues.  I've owned several different Android phones of the years and OS updates are always a cause for concern.

According to a post I read yesterday, a user has found an error in the code of the update that causes the rebooting.  Samsung needs to fix this.
