Quite a few people have the voicemail issue.  I think mine first worked when I got my Samsung note 10 plus last summer and quit at some point.  I see the notice at the top of the screen and visual voicemail works so I don't worry about it.

Hi David,

OK, I have gone to Settings, Notifications, More.  It lists 13 "most recent" different apps, but NO Voice Mail so there is nothing to check for on or off.  When I select "show system apps" it bumps the number up to 20 "most recent", but still no voice mail app in the listing.  Finally figured out how to get "All", and it shows Voice Mail.  I turned it off and back on.

I called the phone and left a voice mail.  I received a tone notification (presumably for the voicemail) and got a red dot on the missed call icon.  The tiny voicemail tape symbol showed up in the notifications bar (only visible if one looks really closely), but NO red dot on the primary app icon.  Just makes no sense.

Trying to be as complete as possible, I went back, turned off the voice mail notification, then restarted the phone.  Called it, left a voicemail, received sound notification, a missed call red bullet, notifications bar symbol, but no voice mail red bullet which is what I would expect to be the case since I had it turned off.

I then reversed the above procedure turning voicemail notification back on and restarting the phone.  I again got a sound notification, and the notification bar showed I had a voicemail (pulling it down noted that I now had 3) and selecting the notification showed I had 3.  But, and this is the real issue, the primary voicemail app icon still did not have a red bullet showing any voicemails, let alone that there were 3!  The missed call icon has a red bullet with 3, and the unrelated e-mail icon has a red bullet with the number of e-mails.  Still there is NO red bullet on the voice mail.  Why not and how do I get that fixed?

Thanks.

By the way, I should have asked if anyone out there with a Samsung Galaxy A42 phone and Verizon service is getting the red bullet on their voice mail icon or if this a programming error/oversight?  If the latter, how do we get it addressed and fixed?

Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

OK, I received the PM, but can't figure out how to reply to it.  Or did you mean to reply to this posting?

Thanks,

Bill

Being able to reply to a Private message is crucial.  You should normally have a reply option on the message.  We have sent another PM now to you just in case.  Please notify us if you see it now.  Thank you.-Sean

Hi All,

OK, I'm going to try this again; sorry for not following up immediately, but "stuff" got in the way.

I have received the private messages and replied, the latest time on 9/14/21 as follows:

Sean, OK, this is the second time I have replied to this and I am not seeing any action.  I need this fixed.  Why don't I get a red bullet When someone leaves me a voice mail? HELP, Please! Bill Bryan"
I have not received any response to the above response nor the one on 9/5/21.  I am frustrated.
I did receive notification that an upgrade to my Android operating system was available and I immediately installed the upgrade on 8/16/21.  I was hopeful that I would see the fix had been done, but that was not the case.
Is this unique to my phone (and my wife's) or a flaw in the system?  Please help -- it is too easy to miss important voice mail and seems pointless to not have the red bullet like on calls, texts, and e-mail.

Hi Yani,

Thanks for your response.  Unfortunately, I am unable to get through all these steps as my display is different from what you describe.  Allow me to expand:

I got through steps 1 - 4 just fine.

When I reach step 5, the Heading is Notification Category, then there is a phone icon with Notifications.  The first toggle switch is titled Show Notifications and appears to be turned off, but the whole line is in a blue shading.  I am unable to get the switch to turn on.  Tapping it has no affect.  Further down that screen Alert is selected, and Show as pop-up, Vibrate, and App Icon Badges are all turned on.  Ignore Do Not Disturb is turned off.

I don't know where to go from here.

I do note that your heading of the knowledge base article is "Turn Notifications On/Off - Basic Visual Voicemail - RED".  To the best of my knowledge, we do not have (or use?) "Visual Voice Mail", just plain old voice mail.  Is that the problem and how do we address that?

Thanks.

Bill

PS:  Am I going to need to call in to help and wait for the interminable hold time?
