S4 gets very hot

My s4 gets pretty hot quite often. I've pulled the battery to check if it's warped and it is not.  I'm not very tech savvy  so please explain any techie terms you use.

HOT when. charge,  using game, idle, do you do wireless charge, is it new.

even my s7edge gets warm. im more concerned with cpu temp than battery. most all smartphones i owned got warm one got hot, like 78c. about 157 f.

define when its hot. doing which.

I charge with a cable. It often gets hot

( 70% of the time)when charging and when using ( phone calls, texting, websurfing) not when idle. I have to charge it a lot because it will empty battery in 4 hours when sitting idle.

It's a 2.5 yr old Verizon S4.  It has always had battery problems.  The heating up has always been there but has gotten worse since lollipop ( probably coincidence).

* Just a side note: my sister's a techie and advised not to do new upgrade for awhile because there are lots of bugs

agreed on techies decision. AND, my best bet would be good that a simple replacement with a new battery, just might get it new life. why you say. in time, and i had recently 6 devices, half would get hot others wouldnt. i got new batteries for 2 of them, and it ran cooler. in time, charge recharge would begin to degrade the battery's cell inside, and it would struggle to output power and struggle to charge, thus heat up. at one point wouldnt bootup. its much cheaper for battery made for YOUR DEVICE not a knock off replacement. i made that mistake once. cheap ways no good. so put that to the techie and see what is said. it dont have to swell to fail/good luck whatever you do. sad part, i have s7edge no removable battery.

We don't want your phone to get hot while using it, Gemmie02. Have you replaced the battery at all recently? Are all of your applications up to date with the latest software? Have you tried different chargers to see if it still gets hot?
