S6 Nougat Update?

Hi Verizon,

When will the Nougat update for the Samsung S6 be available?   Please don't refer me to the Advanced Devices Software Updates | Verizon Wireless  page that lists the latest update.  That is not my question.  I know my current version.

Thanks,

George

Hello gsmitchell,

I know how important it is to be on the latest and greatest software update for your phone. The manufacturer is the one that designs and develops any new software update. They then exhaustively test it out to ensure it is ready to be released to the public. We do not have any timeline of when the software update will be ready to be launched as this testing process can take some time. When the update is ready, it will be pushed out to your phone.

I'd give it at least another month, if not longer. Samsung just started rolling it out in Europe on March 9 or so. The typical process is that Samsung completes the config for a region, then hands it over to the carriers to do their updates, testing, etc. before they are rolled out. It's possible that it's already in carrier testing in the US, but that takes time. I'm guessing mid-April rollout on VZW.

As is typical with Verizon they give horrible advice.  We the people typically know more then they do.  It's been proven time & time again.  Anyway, isn't it weird that nougant was realeased months ago and yet we're still waiting, always waiting.  What's very strange is the new phones are released with nougant and they seem to work & have gone thru the vetting.process but they screw with us on our phones?  If there was an issue then it would stop the new phones.  It's just non-care of their customer.  Also it's time to do away with bloatware.  ENOUGH.

What I think you're not taking into consideration is that the primary hold-up has been with Samsung, not the carriers. It was only recently that Samsung released Nougat for the S6/S6E. From there, the carriers still need to go through and configure/customize for their handsets. But it makes sense from a business perspective to focus on the newer devices first before compatibility for older devices. That's the nature of the beast. If you want a nougat device now, you need to go buy a new device. If you want it on your older device, you gotta wait for it.

I understand that it needs to be tested. The funny thing about this that Sprint has already released it to the Samsung S6 and the S6bEdge. I have coworkers and parents with those from Sprint and they have had it a month. As long as I have been a customer with and seen this in the past, it is a hold to make the customer upgrade to another phone to run the update. This isn't acceptable for as much as we pay. Get it tested and released or there will be another customer who will move to Sprint!

I have also been trying to patiently wait for the 7 Nougat for my S6 and losing patience is how I came across the post.  However, I try to give Samsung and Verizon the benefit of the doubt because I have been in software QA for 15 years, juggling multiple releases of maintenance updates and new releases in test at the same time, and when it gets close to the end of a new release (S8 in this case), there has to be a priority list.  Right now I would imagine for Verizon the S8 would be the top priority and will be tested up to release date since the release is only two weeks away.  It would be better to delay the release a day or two if a critical issue is found than to have everyone angry about a known issue and tell them a software update will soon follow.  As in most companies, you hope the client buys the new release which drops concerns over updates for the past release, especially anything two or more releases back (anything under the S7 in this case).  It's not what most people want to hear but, it is truth.

That can't possibly be true. Sprint only just released Nougat for the Note 5 and S6 Edge + on April 6, and no mention in their software release logs of Nougat for the S6 as of yet.

Perhaps they're confusing the recent patches and minor updates (e.g., some camera features, Google Assistant, etc.) as Nougat. But we also have that for our Verizon GS6 devices.

As far as I know, no US carrier currently has Nougat available for the GS6 or GS6E. Only variant with Nougat so far is Sprint GS6E+.

So it is rolling out to Sprint customers, just not Verizon yet.
