S7 severe battery drain?

Beginning this week, my battery will drain to ZERO in airplane mode or if my data and wifi are turned off.  In addition, it will not charge by any means, I tried wall plug, usb, wireless. The phone will only charge when turned completely off. From 100% the battery monitor says it will last 2 hrs and 35 minutes.  I checked to see that the App Power monitor is on, I looked thru all the apps and their useage.  One in particular KNOX, is using more power than all the others combined.  Looking into KNOX, I find it is no longer supported by Samsung since 12/2017.  I was cautioned not to attempted to remove it since it will cause a clock reset and potentiall void any warranty.  Any suggetions / help?

Did this start after the last update? I have a S7 Edge and received a update last week I think it was. It is odd that the knox is using most of your battery. I would start by shutting the phone off then

press and hold Volume up-Power-Home at the same time. When the phone goes into recovery mode use

the volume down to highlight clear cache partition then press the power button then use the volume down button again to say yes press power again. Then just reboot the phone when the screen goes back to the recovery mode This will clear out all the old files that were left after the update and will not change any of your phone personal settings. If that doesn't work try Verizon's SUA program. One of the files may have been damaged or corrupted when the phone updated and this program could help.

Do you have Outlook installed? If so, uninstall it and see if your charging/battery issues go away.

I've been dealing with this for 2 weeks now on my personal S7 Edge, and work S7. They both started having issues at the same time, so I figured it was an update that Verizon pushed out, turns out that it was Outlook.

Good luck

I have a problem with Outlook draining the battery, but it isn't related to any system updates.

We want to make sure you are provided with a working phone and that it is working as it should. I would be concerned if my phone were doing this as well. As mentioned by kathy65793 did this occur after the last update on your phone? What steps have you completed so far with your phone? Are all of your applications up to date on your phone?

JRH4054, having a reliable battery is certainly important. We understand you have encountered the battery draining when using Outlook. To ensure we get to the root of this issue, we do have a few questions. How were you able to confirm Outlook was the sole reason for the battery drain? When did this issue begin? How long do you regularly use Outlook?

Thanks for checking up with this issue.

I was unable to exactly identify which app was the single cause.  I deleted multiple apps at the same time, which I no longer used for space and power useage concerns.  I recently retired and was no longer using Outlook so I didn't mind deleting.

My uneducated opinion is the root cause of the batery issue, was the phone notification requesting updates to more than a dozen apps. ( I keep my phone up todate, so these were new requests).  I think these apps were getting ready for the 8.0 system update which will be pushed out in coming weeks.  Not having the 8.0 system to operate the app, and running on the current system caused conflicts within the phone.  I had to leave the phone off for several days due to the extreme heat generated by the conflicts.

My phone has since recovered to an operational state following the mass deletions.

Thanks

Doug

JaimeG_VZW, my phone has many more battery issues than Outlook.  Let's leave it at that.

mainliner23, I'm glad that review and clean up of your apps addressed the situation. When apps are trying to update often, they cause the phone to work harder, which in turn uses more battery. I had an issue with this one once on my phone. I'm happy that you're back up and running. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't wait at all to reach out to us again.

One tool I'm going to share with you for the future is our Troubleshooting Assistant. It's a great page that can help you with everyday issues you might run into when using your phone. Battery draining, is one of those concerns covered. The assistant can give you some tips and ideas on what to check, on what might be affecting your battery: http://spr.ly/6581Degkb

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day and thank you for being an excellent VZW customer.
