S8 Random "Soft" reboot

For the past few weeks my Galaxy S8 has been randomly doing what I would describe as a soft reboot. Sitting, being unused, I see the AOD screen turn into the bright "Lock" logo with the circle swirling around it as you typically see when the phone is booted. It finishes after about 10 seconds and goes back to normal. The thing is, this phone is encrypted and a reboot would require me to re-enter the pass code. After this weird reboot it does not ask for the pass code, but it also no longer remembers that I am at a smart location (home). It requires me to re-enter the screen-lock password even though I'm at home where smart location doesn't require that. This phone received a Verizon update on December 12 and I installed Oculus for Samsung VR on December 15. This issue began sometime during that time frame.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

I appreciate you taking time to reach out here as we want to ensure you have the best device experience. Does this seem to happen when certain apps or processes are running in the background? Have you tested the device with the VR app removed if possible?

Thank you,

I have done a few things. First, I uninstalled all Oculus and Samsung VR apps. Then I uninstalled every app that I had "moved" to the SD card. Moving apps to the SD card was something I realized I had also done right before I noticed this issue. These moved apps would "ghost" on me periodically. The icon would be grey and the app itself wouldn't open or the phone would say it wasn't installed. I moved them all back to internal storage, then uninstalled most of them. I re-downloaded the apps I wanted and kept them on internal storage. Now, all my apps are working properly and haven't ghosted since then. I have not re-installed any of the VR apps yet. It has been several days since this new baseline has been established and the issue remains. It seems to occur much less often now, though it is still happening. @YaleK_VZW @VZWsupport

The 'ghosting' of the apps on the card happens when the phone boots.  I believe it's because during the booting process the card hasn't been recognized yet.  This happens with my phone every time I turn it on or reboot it.

This is one of the reasons I believe Google removed the option to allow installation of the applications on the SD card.

Robrey58, you have definitely taken some great steps in working toward a resolution. You mentioned that you had uninstalled the apps and only reinstalled the ones that you wanted. Was this completed immediately or did you test the device a bit for that restart, without these apps installed? Has there been any physical or liquid damage to the phone?

When did Google remove the option of installing apps on the card?  I can still do it.

A few OS versions back. I think it was Ice cream sandwich (ICS) version of Android. However Samsung added the ability back to their models.

I can still add apps to the card. I'm still using

I have a question for you.  I buy extra Verizon cloud space.  When my phone backs up to the cloud, does the info on the car backup too?  That's where all my pics and videos are.  FYI, I'm still using Marshmellow.  I never updated to Nougat.

I have never used Verizon Cloud. I saw no need to when I have my pictures and videos backed up to Google Photos.
