a few months ago my operating system was upgraded to kitkat 4.4.2. ever since then my SD card does not work. i can't save anything to it. i have spend over 10 hours talking to vzw tech support and samsung but no solution. last week tech support remote accessed my samsung S3 and still nothing. this is ridiculous. can anyone help me please.

if you google sd card samsung kitkat you will discover google changed the way apps access the card. I think as a security feature. I encourage you to read up on it. you are not alone.
do you have a myfiles application on the phone? with it you should be able to move files about. another possibility is a download like esfile explorer. another possibility might be to use FTP over wifi.
i think theres a patch from the Playstore that removes restrictions, but your phone has to be rooted to use it and that would void your warranty.
