After Oreo update, my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8 clears Home screen badges unread count after entering and not reading anything
Scenario, receive an email or a text and the badge on the Home screen shows correct count of unread messages
Open msg app and then press home button without reading any txt msg
Home screen badge count disappears, email badge cnt looks good
Receive another text, msg badge cnt now shows a correct 2 unread messages
Go into msg and leave without doing any reading, badge cnt cleared

It's essential for your notifications to be working correctly, PETCAR42. Did this issue start immediately after completing the software update on your phone? You mentioned the number of unread text messages in your example. Are you referring to the badge that shows on your app icon? Are you only experiencing this issue with email and text notifications? If so, what app are you using for text and email? Your thread title mentions incorrect badge counts. Are you seeing an incorrect number of unread messages at any point?

Yes. immediately "After Oreo update".
Both Message+ and stock Email apps behave the same.
The unread badge count on the home screen will correctly show the unread items as the notifications arrive as long as I am at the Home screen or the phone is locked.
As soon as I enter the respective app (and do nothing) and press the Home soft-button, the unread badge count disappears.
So, if I enter the Message+ app and do not read any texts, the unread badge count will be reset on the Home screen when I return to the Home screen. The email unread badge count is not affected at all by entering the Message+ app.
Likewise, if I enter the Email app the same behavior results for each of the three email accounts that I look at separately ( a Yahoo, GMail and a Comcast acct)
I am using the stock email app
I am using the Message+ app supplied by Verizon. The stock message app has the same behavior as the Message+ app.
My thread mentions an incorrect badge count because I am seeing an incorrect badge count. The number of unread disappears without actually reading the items.

Thanks for the clarity, PETCAR42. We know how important it is for the notification feature to work properly on your device. Let's try uninstalling the Messages+ app and then re-install it to see if this clears up the issue. You can also do this for the stock app if it is not a pre-installed one. Let us know if this works. You can also report the bug to our Messages+ team by going to Messages+>Settings>Account>Report a Bug.

Will I lose all of my messages in Message+ when I re-install the app?

I have a similar problem. I had to deactivate badge notifications because no matter how many messages I had, the number 6 appeared on the icon. Whether 1 or 10. And the notification would disappear entirely even if I hadn't read all my texts

Will I lose all of my messages in Message+ when I re-install the app ?
Also, the stock email app behavior is the same, I can't reinstall that.
So, how will re-installing the app help me?

PETCAR42 ,
It's always good to know what to expect, so let's check that out. To see what is saved in your Message+ app, check out the desktop version here: https://vz.to/2clafvM . Re-installing the app won't delete those texts. The purpose of this step is to make sure you are using a totally fresh/current version of Message+, although submitting that to the app developers like DiaS_VZW suggested would be my recommendation. Notifications are different with Oreo compared to previous versions, so the only way to change them is to let the developers know. As for your stock email app, removing the email address in there is the same as un-installing the app, but try using the email-specific app instead to see if you get any changes (Yahoo Mail if using Yahoo, Gmail if using that, etc). This would also give you an option to contact that developer as well so they can work on feedback for their next app versions.

Mdenunz24, we always want your notifications showing correctly. What applications were having this happen? Have you re-enabled badge notifications since then? What other steps have you performed so far to resolve this issue? Just to clarify, do you have also have an S8/S8+?
