System update FAIL

System update is causing most apps to repeatedly restart. Is there a way to roll back/uninstall an update until all the bugs are fixed? And why is it so [Removed] hard to post a question here? The Post button is BROKEN. This is the one of the worst apps I have ever used. "You can not post a blank message. Please type your message and try again." Really? Cuz what I wrote above is pretty much a lot of content. And yet, nothing happens when I click on the Post button. HORRIBLE FORUM APP

I was able to post to the Forum after backing out of the page and going back in. However, the update continues to restart apps ALL. THE. TIME. Like every minute or so. Any fixes planned?!?

In your situation, I'd probably boot to SAFE mode, pull off any important content you wish to keep, perhaps power-down and pull out an SD card if you have one, and power back up and proceed to do a Factory Data Reset. I think you are going to have difficulty rolling back. Usually the path is forward... Sometimes an Update will not leave the device working perfectly and you have to do a FDR to restore it to proper operation. The downside is the phone is wiped of content.

If a FDR seems a drastic step to you, you could try first to wipe just the "System Cache" and see if the proper behavior is restored. You can Google "S7 System Cache Wipe"

stef7, how does wiping the cache partition differ from clearing the cache using the internal storage setting?

There is no way to go back on your phone once you update it. It sounds like the update was corrupt. If you have a computer and a good service for downloads I would try going here. It will be a good solid connection and the software should have a better chance to update the phone better.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem but when I clear the cache partition in recovery mode it doesn't clear the cache in my storage -internal storage in the phone itself. the cache partition has all the old files left in it after you do an update. When you clear that it gets rid of all the old files that are left after the update.

Did you ever get your phone updated?

Not yet.  I will try it this weekend using the SUA.  Stay tuned.

Ok, I am not an expert on this, and I might have an incorrect mental model, but there are a few different things when people refer to "Cache".

I believe the Cache you are referring to, available using Internal Storage, or maybe Manage Apps, is the cached files or settings of applications.

I could be wrong, but I think, the System Cache is something totally different. This would be the settings used by the operating system itself.

When you do an update, the person creating the update assumes a clean phone, no apps downloaded, the general distribution of operating system and applications (both those that accompany Android, and those accompanying a network/carrier's version). Problem is, your device is not this same clean test environment. And not all the settings in your version of Android map cleanly to the version you are trying to install.

In my experience, flaky operation post-update may require a system cache wipe, and if necessary, an FDR.

I suppose you could also clear the application caches.

Personally? I prefer to backup just my photos and any downloaded content. I perform an FDR. I re-download just what I need, and reconfigure those apps. It's a chance to get rid of useless stuff and start fresh. The hardest part of this for most people is getting their email back on line, but many of the email apps these days can set themselves to use the proper protocols and authentication after you provide the email address and the password (which hopefully you remember or have written down).

Hope I got this right.

I have never gotten a corrupt OTA. Ever. The OTA is designed I believe to check itself before initiating the update process. So to have to use another tool to re-install the OTA is something I've never personally had to do. YMMV.

I hope you didn't jinx yourself with that last comment. I think basically you have it right. The thing about OTA  is that thru the years I have gotten bad updates. With the SUA you could get a bad update to depending on what type of connection you have. I have dsl which is good but not great.
