Update my S7 Edge?

Hi all-

I've been holding off updating to Android 7.0 because of the issues I read here and other forums that users have had. On 6.1.1, my phone works just fine, great battery life (in power saving mode), decent wifi/data/cell connectivity. Am I just being paranoid, or should I bite the bullet and upgrade. I'd like to hear from those of you with this phone who have no regrets as well a those who wish they never had done it. I've read that if you are unhappy with Nougat, you can revert to Marshmallow, but I'd rather not have to go through all that if the upgrade is buggy. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Personally I haven't seen any issues since the update that I didn't already have.  Battery power is still running normally to amount and type of use but I am still getting the occasional lock-up (which was occurring even before the update).  This update must have modified the e-mail somehow as my icon changed, but, ever since I got the Edge last year I have never been able to sync my e-mail...the update didn't correct that problem so I can't tell what the changes might have been.

I thought I might be the only S7 user left who hasn't yet installed Nougat.   As long as I see issues Nougat has, and is, causing S7 users, I won't install it.  Although, there is a problem that concerns me.  By not installing Nougat and subsequent updates, I'm not getting the security updates that could protect my phone.  Scrondar, I think you may be mistaken about reading that you can revert back to Marshmallow.  In a two words, you can't.  Unfortunately, once it's done, it's done.

I know that it is a [removed] shot in updating Any phone no mater what make or model. We had two S5 and the one still works and the other one is Dead. This happened when the phones went from lollipop to marshmallow. I could not get any help from Verizon or Samsung with the dead phone and got caught up in that Note 7 and its recalls. So I diffidently know where you are coming from. Like JRH4054 said once you update that is it no turning back. I wish we could help you on this matter but unfortunately you are the only one that can make this call. I know JRH4054 has held off all this time but like he said about the security update is true. Even if it was just a security update it can cause problems like we saw a couple of updates ago when people had problem after that one. Keep us posted on what you decide and if you do update there is always that chance that you will not have any problems.

kathy65723, I have a question for you.  I am nearing the point of finally installing Nougat.  However, the daily reminders to install it have stopped, and when I click on System updates, I get 'Software update is temporarily unavailable'.  Do you know what's going on?

I really hope this goes well for you. Have you restarted your phone lately? I know when I held off on an update on my phone it said the same thing when I finally went to do the update. When I restarted it it told me about the update and just updated it then. Before you do the update have you made a complete backup of your phone? If you can't get it to do the backup on its own I would go to the software update ( SUA ) and use that to do it. I think that is one of the reasons that people have problems with updates is that through the OTA that files get corrupt but with a solid connection like over the computer it has less of a chance. Not that it doesn't happen but it is just better that way.    Wow I can't believe you are finally thinking of doing it. I really hope it works for you since you have helped so many on here at least you will know what to do if it doesn't. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

In answer to your question about restarting, I turn my phone off every night.  Until very recently, when I turned it on, I got the announcement about doing the update.  As I have described, I have been delaying it.  Regarding the Software Upgrade Assistant, for some reason I have been unable to successfully install it on my laptop.  I'm using Windows 7.  When I attached the phone to the computer, it isn't recognized.  The AutoPlay screen doesn't show the Run VZW software as an option.  Prior to attaching the phone, I changed the USB configuration to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), but still no recognition of the phone.  Do you have any ideas?  What about taking it to the Samsung desk at Best Buy?  As always, really appreciate your help and guidance.

If you are close to a best buy then yes I would take it to them since they are authorized to work on samsung and if anything goes wrong they will know right there what to do. Please keep us posted

As far as the computer isn't there a software option on the pull down screen on the phone? Did you try other usb slots? Also on here I have read where it was something as simply update the drivers for samsung phone. Don't really know if they had a update on them lately but that is what I've read on here. Good luck and let us know

Thanks again for your advice.  There is nothing in the pull-down notifications about this issue.  I have tried other USB ports, but that didn't work.  The problem begins when I can't even download the upgrade assistant on to my laptop.  There is a Best Buy close.  I may take the phone in to see what they might be able to figure out. I will keep you posted.
