Verizon Trade-In Scam! Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2

I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2. I was pretty excited since the $800 trade-in offer made the deal very affordable and I liked the idea of a foldable phone since I was going to purchase a tablet before.

My nitpick on this phone from the Verizon shop is not due to the phone, but the trade-in offer that comes with it!

Despite the $800 trade-in offer on the Verizon shop page for the p hone saying, "For the first time ever, trade in an old or damaged phone free of battery damage (i.e. swelling, leaking or too hot to touch).", Verizon will not honor this offer. They will reduce the value of any trade-in down to almost nothing ~$20 instead of honoring the $800 trade-in.

It's a classic bait-and-switch! I was given a total run-around on trying to get them to honor the trade-in offer discount for this phone. At first, the denial was due to the trade-in phone having a black spot (no cracks, just a spot) on the screen. Then when I pointed out the offer said damaged phones were ok except for battery damage, the reason given for the denial changed to "my account is not valid for the loyalty offer".

I have spent hours on the phone with Verizon reps who agree that something is very off here and they will submit for a 'correction' but the correction is always denied....lost, or just ignored.

Buyer beware with any trade-in offers!!!  Verizon will find any reason to not give what was promised!

I currently feel that this is a scam and that a small claims action will be the only way to settle this.

I'm 210% sure your old phone wasn't worth $800. If the market value was only $20, it either didn't qualify as a specific model accepted for trade-in or the offer was in fact not targeted towards your account.

Whatever the case may be, it's definitely a your phone wasn't worth that much.

If it's this one for June did you meet all the qualifications?  If you didn't that's not bait abd switch.

After several hours of time on the phone with Verizon reps, this issue was finally corrected and I received the correct trade-in.  It took a lot of discussion and looking at the fine print of the offer to prove that yes, I did qualify for the trade-in offer, yes....I did send the correct device in for trade-in, yes....they said screen damage was ok in the offer....etc.

All along, the actual Verizon reps generally agreed with my assessment and thought this was a case of the deal not being honored and would submit PCA (?) tickets to have the case looked at by the department responsible for the trade-ins.

It seemed to take forever, but I was able to eventually get Verizon to honor the trade-in deal!
