I am hoping that Samsung has started communications with Verizon and if not Verizon is pushing for a date since Google has tested and released patches for the Google-branded devices and Samsung is refusing to communicate with the press / security industry on plans and timing for fixing what could become a massive vulnerability.

The Google security patch is just getting out to google devices. It usually takes the OEM manufacturer a while longer to get the same update out to their devices.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

At this point recomendations are to turn off BlueTooth, as this hack is air bourne and does not need permission to pair.
The Smart phone device just has to be within in signal range of another infect blue device
Thanks in advance

Please see the following, then visit the government website for details.
BlueBorne Bluetooth Vulnerabilities
Published Tuesday, September 12, 2017
US-CERT is aware of a collection of Bluetooth vulnerabilities, known as BlueBorne, potentially affecting millions of unpatched mobile phones, computers, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. A remote attacker could exploit several of these vulnerabilities to take control of affected devices.
US-CERT recommends that users and administrators read Vulnerability Note VU#240311 for more information.
Sincerely,
Galaxy S5 owner.
