Will a protective case cause the S8 clock to turn on and off?

I know was asked before, but I did not understand the answer.  And it is happening to my phone.

Placed a cover on my S8 phone now the clock turns on and off every few seconds.  Does the cover cause this to happen?

Changing

Settings > Display > Keep Screen Turned Off

has no effect.

The "Correct Answer" was given as "placing a piece of paper on the back of the cover and it is work fine"  What does that mean?  Inside the cover between the phone and cover?  Or somewhere else.

Are you sure you're not talking about the AOD/Always on Display?  That would be Settings > Lock Screen & Security > Always on Display.  A case could mess with this since it senses the room brightness and it also tries to figure out if the phone is face down or in a pocket which turns it off until it senses those condition are no longer true.

DWFIV, I regret the resolution in our previous thread was not clear. Just so that I have clear understanding, is the screen on your phone turning off/on only when you place a cover on the device? Have you verified Keep Screen Turned off is disabled on the device? To check this setting tap on settings<display<Keep Screen Turned off.

Keeping the phone screen OFF is exactly what I want to do, so disabling it

would be the opposite of what I am trying to accomplish. I push the power

button, the screen goes blank, and then after about 10 seconds the clock

reappears. How do I get the clock to NOT reappear?

Turn off the always on display.
