After software updates, screen tries to power on but flickers and goes black. Repetitive toggling of the on off switch (50+) will open it. After a few days it settles down and works fine. Works fine until next update.
I know you mentioned software updates, but just to check does the issue also occur when you try to manually power the phone off and then on? If it does it would indicate a problem with the button, but if its just after updates it sounds like the CPU is shutting down. I've had this occur on the S3 & S5.
I was able to boot it back up by removing the battery for about 10 seconds or so and then holding down the power, home & volume buttons for about 30 seconds.
