You can't remove all of the apps, but you can disable them.
settings > more > application manager > slide to the left to All
press Uninstall or Disable (you may have to Uninstall Updates first) and the app will drop to the end of your app list under All
You also can pull down the notification screen, tap the four-panel button in the far upper right corner, then tap the Power Saving toggle.

Truthfully, eight hours is about normal for battery usage. If you do a lot of downloading, video/music streaming, or net surfing, it will eat your battery. As tikibar1 said, you can disable all the bloatware apps, but you can not uninstall them.

Your new S4 is an awesome device, photogronicalee. With all the great features and LTE service it offers, battery life can sometimes be less than expected. I know when I have a new phone, my battery doesn't seem to last at first because I'm still getting use to all the great features and tend to use the phone a little more and forget to close applications fully. There are plenty of great tips at http://vz.to/1cemSSl to help you extend your battery life. Try them out to help with battery life.
Thank you
