I agree with everyone. The S4 heats up quickly, and this is my second one I got since I am on coverage.

After a week, I replaced it for a 2nd one,  and still the same thing.

Bought 3 phones (3 lines)  and all the same problems...

I am now out of my 2 week trial and error time.

it Overheats at the Camera area and on the front.

Need to talk with speaker on, since I can't get it against my ear.

Comes  in handy for baking eggs though...

Sure hope this is fixed soon.

mrdutchie, thanks for these details. Is there any physical or liquid damage on any of your devices? If not, then these devices are definitely covered under the manufacturer warranty. We can diagnose the issue with you right over the phone. If we cannot address the problem while you're on the line and the problem is caused by a manufacturing defect, we'll send you a remanufactured replacement device right to your door.

Hi palane,

Thanks for reaching out. When your device overheats it usually does not sweat.  To ensure there is not liquid damage to your phone, please visit your local Verizon Wireless store and have it examined. http://bit.ly/3SdsA They will also be able to assist with a replacement too.

Thanks, BobbyS_VZW

If you are telling me it's sweat proof then why isn't it also heat proof? I

am in process of receiving a replacement as I lost my phone but thanks.

I'd like to get in on this conversation.  My S4 hasn't overheated during normal everyday use, but it did overheat when I used the GPS for a road trip (about an hour of continuous use, only using GPS and whatever background activities might have been going on).  According to my battery log, it reached 103.8F at which point it gave me a warning chime.

103 is not bad. I don't even get concerned at that temp. Now 137F, I am pulling the battery and placing a fan on the device or on a cool   You didn't have the device on the car dash did you?

I got my S4 when I started working for my new company. Had an SII on At&t which worked just fine, but had to be Verizon. I've had overheating problems since day 1 and I'm not even a heavy user - in the office I use skype all the time. A month ago when the phone was of course 60 days old, the contacts manager stopped working. All my contacts from Gmail, Exchange - everything, just disappeared and it stopped being able to work as a phone (dialing etc.). I went to a Verizon store they suggested a master reset... I don't know why I bothered - I knew about that, I'm not a newbie. Didn't want to because it sucks but did. Solved the problem, for two days. Contacted Verizon, they sent me out a 'good as new' referb job. Showed up and the metal band around the edge was dinged from an obvious drop, so despite and 100 point check (my 1 point check noticed it straight away - odd that) I wouldn't accept it. On the phone again to Verizon, they send out a new old phone again (they really get customer service eh?). This time it appears that all is well. Until 4 days ago when my contacts disappeared again etc. etc. Both issues came with the area under the camera getting so hot - even when not in use - that it made my leg sweat or my ear depending on how I was using it. Uninstalled/disabled all the background crap, no difference. Tried an experiment on the weekend - banged it in the fridge for 10 mins. Voila - contacts back, phone works as a phone. I'm going to have to persevere because the only way Verizon can solve this problem for me is to replace it with a DIFFERENT phone, which they won't do so I'm stuck until renewal. At that time I'll be saying adios to Samsung and if I can convince my COO, Verizon. They've cost me 4 meetings and possibly an investor in only 3 months of being a customer.

Bottom line is the S4 in it's CDMA flavor is a dog, don't know is GSM would be any better but battery doesn't even last 8 hours.

Overheating can often be the result of the phone searching for a network or wi-fi network.  It can also be caused by a weak network connection.  My S4 is  warmer when I am using a weak network.  By weak I mean one or two bars.
