I understand the importance on sending and receiving email without confusion. Your concern is not completely clear to me, can you please clarify? Where exactly do you see the "-1" on the device (i.e.. inbox, outbox, notification bar)? Which email account provides the "-1" notification?
In the meantime, I would suggest deleting and re-adding your email account. To delete: Applications>Email>Select the desired account>Remove Account. To add:Menu>Accounts>Menu>Add Account. I hope these steps are helpful and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
