Verizon announced "Nationwide" (lower band) 5G access on Oct 13. Since the "Ultra" (high) band won't be accessible in my location, I was glad the Nationwide coverage map showed it was locally available. But, I just discovered that my SM-976V was made in August 2019 with the older Qualcomm X50 modem that connects only to the high band. So, after spending a lot on the SM-976V that was advertised as a 5G device, I get no such connectivity. I believe customers should have been informed of the modem and limited access issue. Have others been impacted with this problem? Does anyone have a suggestion for getting satisfaction from Verizon and/or Samsung?

Could someone confirm when/if Note10 plus 5G will receive a software update enabling nationwide 5G? I live in a 5G market and only get 5G UWB if outside very close to a 5gUWB tower and a few limited areas. This phone was well over $1,000 when purchased with the understanding it would support all Verizon 5G. Thank you.

Gotta tell ya...
I'm the most patient customer you'll ever have, but I feel really duped into paying a $300 more for a phone that only gets 5G UWB if I'm facing the right direction and standing in an area the size of a postage stamp. As previously stated, it is kind of disappointing to have paid for a virtually non existent service that was supposedly headed my way, only to have that service switched to a different version of 5G to which my $1300 phone can't connect.
Meanwhile, I still owe $650 for an already outdated, obsolete product. Is there any making this right?

That really doesn't help me or make this right. Sorry. I don't mean to be a wiseguy, but that was not the "solution" I was anticipating.

I am currently sitting in the parking lot of a Verizon store. They said I needed the 5G Sim card. We installed it and still no 5G and we supposedly have 5G capability where I live.
So Vz are you going to credit me for paying for a phone that does not support 5G capability or are you going to send me a Note 20+ 5G?

No, I just get the runaround or people who think it's a sim card issue...

We want to make sure to move with accuracy only, so let's make sure you are set up for success. 5G Nationwide and our 4G LTE share low band spectrum. Really, what this means is that right now 5G Nationwide is more of a slightly boosted 4G LTE connection than it is of a slightly downgraded 5G Ultra Wideband, aka UWB, connection (the 5G that receives those super-fast speeds). 5G Nationwide will improve as we grow it out and as we build on 5G UWB areas. You will get 5G on the Note 10, but it will solely be for the 5G Ulta Wideband technology. Let me know if that helped clarify.

Thanks for responding Akane!
I'm in one of those areas already but I do not get 5G. How can I make my 'Note 10+ 5G' get 5G?
I think my only real option is to change phones. My argument for an uncomplicated phone swap is this: Verizon sold me a 5G phone that does not deliver 5G. I entered into an agreement that Verizon could not fulfill and this should allow me to change devices. This seems fair.
Without being one those dreaded customers, I would like to 'step into' the equivalent device in the Note 20 model line without having to pay mine off. Ideally, take my Note 10+ back and set me up with a 'Note 20 5G Ultra' giving me credit for the $500+ that I have spent on my Note 10+.
Akane, would you please PM me for options?
Thank you!

I am currently sitting in the parking lot of a Verizon store. They said I needed the 5G Sim card to be able to 5G. They installed it and still no 5G coverage and I live in an area where 5G is available.
So Vz are you going to credit my account for a phone that does not work on 5G or send me a Note 20 +5G?

I have the same issue. Currently in a fix with Verizon. They are offering me a promo credit for the false advertisement and a minimum 350 trade in credit for my note 10+5g. I did have to come out of pocket to pay off the remaining balance on note 10 which still feels bogus. Had to also be on the phone for over 2.5 hours to get to this point. Remains to be seen if they actually apply the promo credit for false advertising as they claimed they could not send me an email to confirm it since its a "unique"problem and it will show up in 1-2 billing cycles. I still also have to separately trade my current note in. I guess have to wait and see...will update for anyone wondering.

Today I was sitting next to my wife who is using the S20 5G UW, and I've got the Note 10+ 5G.
She was on 5G but I was not. I've never had my phone connect to 5G even while visiting major metro areas like Miami, Denver, and Salt Lake.
- Now I'm really upset with Verizon! I have been on a 5G plan for a year with no way of ever getting 5G. I had no idea about this until today - AND I bought a 5G phone that has never worked with 5G! Verizon knew all along too. This is just wrong...

Pertinent question, maybe not. Did you notice any difference in speed between your 4G LTE data connection and your wife's "5G" connection? I suspect that, when the dust settles, the Verizon version of 5G nationwide will be much like AT&T's "5Ge" nonsense.

I will take a look. I am now in Key Biscayne Florida and she has 5G. It rated 123 down and 21 up. Not too bad. My 4G, sitting right next to her is 125 down and 15 up. Essentially the same.
My complaint is totally about principal: I opted for 5G and the associated increase in purchase cost and monthly plan payments but 5G is available to others and not my device. It stings a bit that Verizon has no provision for those of us who opted in early, paid for months and then find that our premiere device is outdated already.
If they would give me credit for time served in 5G jail, I would totally swap phones. All this said, I guess I can change my plan to the non-5G I think. I will look into that in just a few. It just goes back to paying for a plan that Verizon will not fulfill/support. In fact, I understand the onboard modem isn't really even capable. That's the icing on the cake. [OK off my soapbox]

emtownsend, what I gathered reading through your Private Note and your replies in other threads, I believe the issue you are running into is that the Note 10 5G series are all running off the 5G UW network. Since the 5G UW network is limited to small pockets of the nation, you are not able to use your device on the 5G Nationwide as your wife is doing. I am sure you were able to read through this thread and conclude that the Note 10 5G series do not have the required hardware to update to the 5G Nationwide network.
I have stated this in the thread before, but 5G Nationwide and our 4G LTE share low band spectrum. This would explain why you and your wife are having almost identical speeds while on the 4G and 5G Nationwide network.
You will get 5G on the Note 10, but it will solely be for the 5G Ulta Wideband technology. You can use this link to see where the exact pockets of the 5G UW are located: https://www.verizon.com/coverage-map/ Let me know if my explanation helped.

The problem is my wife and I paid and extra $600, $300 each for our phones to get the Note 10+ 5G instead of the regular Note 10+ because the salesman told us we needed to future proof our phones because 5G would be everywhere in the next few months. I feel deceived because now I find out these phones can only access 5GUW which Verizon has essentially abandoned in favor or nationwide 5G. I don't live or work anywhere near a 5GUW tower and from what I understood neither does 99% of the population as its basically line if sight... I think Verizon should upgrade us for free to the Note 20+ so we can actually use the 5G service we were promised and paid extra for!
