Why are we still waiting on this update? We pay full prices for these phones and get an update FORCED on us that we already knew would destroy our phones but we have no way to stop it. I had a perfect phone for about 2 months and get an update forced on me that now force closes apps, and completely drains my battery in the first couple hours of the day. A little difficult if you need it for work. I've called and called and you get the same garbage answer. Here's an answer for you... stop forcing updates on us and let us CHOOSE if we want to download them or not. I think all Verizon customers should walk their phones back into Verizon and demand a full refund on their phones. Start taking care of your customers! You did this to us on our last phone, the Razr Maxx. Couldn't use it after 6 months because of an update that screwed up our phones. You NEVER did make it right for us... just moved on to the next phone in your line up. This is the LAST phone I will have with Verizon. Total bs how you leave your customers hanging. This update was released a month ago. If I don't have it soon, you are getting your phone back and I'm getting a full price refund, and I hope everyone else does the same. How you haven't had a class action suit over this is beyond me.

I understand your frustration on this matter Luck10, trust me I do. I am currently waiting on that update for my Note Edge as well. Please do not leave over this. Honestly, it is out of Verizons control being that we do not make the software nor do we manufacture the phones. Google has to create the update for the Android software. Once they do that, it is pushed to us and then we push it out to our customers. I actually did a master reset on my phone and now I do not have the issue with apps any longer. Have you tried that on your Note? If not, here are the steps to do so: http://vz.to/1LJeUSD. Keep in mind to run a backup on your phone first to save all your media.

To clarify, Samsung does not create, patch, or update the OS; however, they can/will update their "third party" platforms for example.....the TouchWiz launcher. I guess you could say their are three parties involved in the process to get a stable product out.

Google makes the OS
Samsung makes modification such as TouchWiz and their features.
Carriers pay manufacturers for things like added software, VoLTE, and spectrum support. The only thing the carrier writes would be the RIL and their security batches which are given to manufacturers in advance with said bloatware. There's multiple timelines and documentation from manufacturers of the process but people don't bother listening to them.

A company can change anything in Android.
For example stage fright. I could rewrite that code on my own and not rely on Google to patch it. From that point forward I cant rely on Google to patch it.
Another example root exploits. Why does it work for some and not for others? This post will probably be flagged since I said root exploits but it's a good example. HTC doesn't use base code for a lot of things and that's why their exploits used are different from let's say Motorola.

When you sign a contract with your carrier, their responsibility is to updateall their Samsung phones to all new operating systems and any security needed for their phones that they sell. The carrier also signs an agreement with Samsung to update their phones in a timely manner when Samsung releases the final version of any software. It is not Samsung's fault, it's Verizon. It has nothing to do with getting people to buy a new phone especially if a phone isn't even a year old yet.Verizon is having problems with their bloat, touchwhiz and only want to do one 5.1 1 update for the US version and the Europe version at the same time. That's why ir hasn't been updated yet.

Also it's not Samsung Galaxy pushing updates. It's actually the other way around. In the US manufacturers charge carriers for updates. Samsung verified this as early as 2007 with the Behold 2 and Galaxy S, but everyone ignored it. Samsung also admitted they charged for features like call blocking and other TouchWiz features during that time as well.

FYI glad you brought up T-Mobile. Their Note 4 doesn't have 5.1.1 so how are they really faster? Also there has been countless times Verizon was not last in delivering updates. There were times they were first, and all other were months behind.

I've done several master resets, along with everything else possible and it hasn't fixed the numerous bugs with my Note 4 ever since that update so long ago messed it up. I have battery problems...severe...when I get down to 40% my phone starts cycling itself on and of repeatedly. GPS issues like crazy. Nothing fixes it. Tried everything. Some BT bugs, phone call bugs, and every other bug being reported I have also. Just tired and frustrated. The fix was released from Samsung months ago with vs 5.1.1 and other carriers have it on their Note 4's ... it was released to them over a month ago! What the heck is going on? Where's our update?! My phone worked flawless for 2 months when I first got it. Ever since, the update ruined it, and still no Verizon release not far from a year later!? Unacceptable. Blame whoever you want, it's just ridiculous that this is all hush hush and you blame Samsung or Google, and they blame you and blah blah blah but you all pretend that you don't know when a release will be out or even what version of the release...5.1.1 or 6.0, etc. It's dumb and unfortunately even though I've been with Verizon for 15 years, I'm highly considering moving our 3 lines to AT&T. At least they update months sooner...whoever "they" are is irrelevant, I want a fix...period.

That is not a valid excuse when Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T already have pushed this update. How do you explain that?
To me this is a totally legit reason to cut ties with Verizon.

We're still waiting!! This is so beyond ridiculous. It's great that some people did a factory reset and it helped, but for most people it did not. I refuse to do a factory reset because 1, it is ridiculous we need to do that in the first place, and 2, I'm not doing all that work to find out I'm in in the majority of the people it doesn't work for.
Plain and simple, we shouldn't even have to be having these conversations if Verizon took care of their customers. The update that allegedly fixes theses problems has been our for at least over a month. Seriously Verizon, what is your problem?? Get it sent to our Note 4's. Don't blame Samsung or Google, you are sitting on the update!!
I'm still so angry over what was done to us on our RAZR Maxx phones that I swore I would never let this happen to me again.
If we don't have our updates by the end of the weekend I would LOVE for everyone who owns phones that are still waiting for the update, to walk their phones back into a Verizon on Monday and demand a full refund. Seriously, what does one have to do to make that happen??
Even if no one else does, I am. I'm a single parent that works too hard for my money and I'm tired of being taken advantage of by this company. As it stands, your phone is of no use to me in this condition. Like anything else I buy that is defective, I return it for a full refund. And yes, you are letting me out of your contract with no fees. SICK SICK SICK of this company!!!
Time for people to stand up to them and take their business elsewhere.

Luck10,
I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be to have these issues with your device. Our goal has always been to have a reliable service and device for our customers. The update does go through thorough testing prior to be released to ensure all issues are addressed. We partner with the manufacturer to make this happen. Yes, it can take sometime prior to being released and we do truly appreciate your patience. Our goal is to make sure it works right for you. Factory resetting the device is an alternate route that you can take to jump start your phone. Pretty much the same thing happened to me with the Note 3. They updated it and ruined it. They are always the last to update anything and always charge the most. Waiting for contracts to expire and moving on. So tired of this. I waste more time on the phone with them and never get anything done. I have noticed they tend to break phones when the updated one comes out hoping you pay to upgrade!

I will be interested in how well it works, moving back/forth from Sprint/T-Mobile depending on strength of signal. That and wifi calling.
Interestingly enough, the main reason I am trying this out is for the international aspect. My daughter will be spending the spring in Belgium for school and I thought this would be a fairly inexpensive way to keep in touch with her while there, instead of using her Verizon phone and going thru having her change the SIM card to a local one when she gets there.
